PX6.0 (hard stepped) vs Nippon Modus 3 TourX flex (Vs KBS C Taper stiff hard stepped)

Thinking its time for a new set of irons as the MP60 are very tatty and have rusty faces, impressed with the Nunchuk in driver, Virge suggested Modus3 most similar iron shaft. Got hold of a KZG EC-II forged cavity back shafted with a Modus 3 Tour X flex, Same length, lie angle and sw as the MP60 PX. Both clubs are aligned with the NBP at 9 Oclock. Reading on GolfWRX that they play a bit soft to flex but that they hit low flat bombs. Perfect day for testing flight and spin with a cold 25mph head wind. Hit a load of balls, including 15 with each club with a vertical sharpie line drawn on the ball where i hit it, alternating 5 with each club to ensure no grooved swing effect. Result is that the PX6 are staying. Very consistent shots generally just on the front of the target green, nice flight, held up by the breeze but definitely no ballooning. Modus 3 were all over the place. Back of the green, 10 yards short and wider both sides than the PX. Best 5 shots of the test were with the modus three in the middle of the target green. Other 10 with Modus 3 were the worst of the test and a mixture of what you would expect from the impact pattern.

I had never used PX shafts prior to my current set and I would never use anything else now.

6I = 92ish, more if i bust it. Was busting it today. Any love for the Modus 3 out there?

I'm cheap. They are supposed to be a tad softer as well. 1 softstep = 3cpm.

Tried Nippon Modus 3 again, played 9 holes with the 6 iron, good way to hit lots of different shots.

Weird shaft, some nice shots, but when trying to work the flight or trajectory the result was often the opposite of what i expected. Not sure what is going on there. I cant reliably hit it with the sweet spot but that doesn't explain it entirely.

Also took the C Taper 6I and hit the same shots. Punch shots were low, high shots were lowish...but no problem with hop and stop. Confirmed C Taper is the go for me, very stiff in the tip but a lovely muted smooth mid bend. As an aside, if you are looking for an iron shaft most similar to the Nunchuk this would be close.

Photo is of club face after ten shots with C Taper and vertical sharpie line drawn on the ball. Results with modus 3 were the same as for the original photo above. I dont know why i hit the modus 3 all over the face and the C Taper mainly out of the middle. Both are the same swing weight, also i tried m3 heavier and lighter.

Modus 3 is X, C Taper is S hard stepped. During fitting for the C taper i was on the monitor at mid 90s 6I so if anything the m3 should suit a little better

Where did you buy the modua 3 from and how much?

$37 from Golfworks.com. Shipping would be about another $6 each

Yeah, thats about it, off ebay for ~ $35 but more than that for shipping. Not Golfworks but some other reputable seller. The local guy does them for $55 per iron fitted with Tour Velvet.
