I was an older grad, had great results and had "been around the block" so to speak. I was 27 when I graduated and was told my life experieces were an advantage over the straight from high school kids.

In regards to getting a start if you are mature age > 21 I think, and have done any sort of study beforehand you should be fine.

I sometimes think I should have done engineering. Too late now I guess.

Think I'll go get a dump truck licence and move to the mines. Certainly pays a lot better than IT these days.

Yea I have been pondering that, but I do wonder if I could handle it for more than 6 months.

IT is paying the same as it was 15 years ago, which is pretty crap now.

Funny u say that cos that's exactly the position I'm in. I'm 27yrs with a partial Commerce degree done when I left school but stopped cos I hated it. I think now tho I'm more ready than ever to study. Feels like things have slown down a lot now and after I graduated yr 12 I just picked a degree cos I thought I had to. Engineering has always been the one thing I wanted to do but thought it would be a bit beyond my limits. So it's now or never.

Anyone have any books and or references for yr 12 level Physics that I could borrow or buy as this could be a handy catchup before taking the course?

Bugger, I gave all of my old uni textbooks to a charity two weeks ago Flavzz, would have happily sent them your way.

Flavzz, I started off studying Civil Eng but changed courses midway through to Construction Management (mainly be3cause my interest changed more to the hands on aspect of building and construction more than I found the theory too hard).

I'm not sure if I have any physics textbooks left over, but I do have a few other ones (I know for sure i have a maths one and a structural mechanics one) I haven't sold off yet. Will check this evening.

Not at the moment...my interest dropped off a bit after I did some work for a few months as a reinforcing estimator with OneSteel.

My aim is to get back into it one day, but even though I'm comparatively earning hardly anything in my current retail job, the flexibility and balance I have in terms of work/other bits of life is good enough for me to stay here for a little while.

Quick update, I got accepted and am now enrolled in Mechanical Engineering at UniSA starting in 2 weeks. Pumped to get started and getting some new direction in my life. The biggest problem is my golf will take a fair whack but at least there is still Uni Holidays to make it all up....

Yeah good luck mate... head down and learn quickly just to do what you need to, to get that pass... anything else is a bonus!

Early on it may be all you can do, but as I say as the course goes on, it will all come together.

    Cheers,
    Waz

    Good luck Flavzz!

One positive will be that studying engineering will probably mean you don't have to try to find a way to avoid perving at hot first years. Well, that's if my time at uni is anything to go by.

Good luck Flavzz. I've just finished my first part time semester in Civil Eng. There is very little Chem so don't worr about that too much, The first yr and a half is pretty generic for all ENG disciplines so if you want to change in the future to civil, mining or enviro (god knows why) then you can
