Almost, but I managed to get her laptop working properly again so the UPGRADE has been put off for another year.

Why don't you just buy the original retail Norton Anti-Virus Software? Seriously mate, it is something like $40 at JB-HiFi or any retailer for three one year licenses. Isn't your info worth more than $15 when you know you're secure (at least as much as you can)? Just rebooting your machine if something goes in will cost you that much so its not worth it to try and find a free mediocre version of an anti-virus if you only have to pay that much for one. Its like getting a new Scotty Cameron Special Limited edition and use a cloth instead of a protective cover to avoid it chipping to save $10 bucks.

And the evidence on the "piece of shit" statement is? It used to work pretty well when we had a PC at home. Never had any issues or problems while using it really.

Plenty of evidence out there that is misses many viruses, it is common knowledge TBH. It also has a ridiculous footprint (RAM Usage).

I'm not getting involved in a dick-waiving competition so I'll just throw a blanket "In my opinion..." over everything I've said and move on with life.

Before this gets out of control, I should clarify that I meant to type "waving". I am not waiving any dicks.

No one wanted a "dick-waiving" competition here jejeje. I ask because I'm curious about it and would really like to know, not to troll anybody. My intention is not to prove a pint about something I don't know about. I have used a Mac for the last 10 years at least, so I'm not defending one or the other, but we have a PC at home for some software my wife runs. I asked because I was curious to have an explanation behind it, and, if its convincing enough, maybe change the PC to a different anti-virus software, that was all...

There are many AV comparisons out there on the 'net. I don't think I have ever seen one where the Norton beat all the free ones, let alone finished on top. Every test has commented about the memory hogging nature of Norton.

Personally, I use Microsoft Security Essentials after a friend who does IT support put me on to it. Reviews I have read rate it very highly and I have never suffered a virus problem since installing it.
My parents new computer came loaded with Norton and within 3 months picked up a virus when my dad was doing a google search for motorcycle parts.
Since putting them on MSE they have not had a recurrence.

Just downloaded the free Avast for both our laptops.

It's free for 1 year, wheras the AVG was only good for 1 month

Avast is still pretty good though right ?!?

Avast is rated quite highly out of all the free software I think. Avira is also good - though the ads can get a bit annoying (you can stop them though). I use Security Essentials, in fact we run it on all our work PCs and find it really good - generally recommend it to clients as well. If I had to choose a free AV software MSE would be my pick but I don't think you can go wrong with any of these three.
