    Default Nudgee G.C.

It seems that the government are keen (again) to try and fix the shithouse Gateway motorway at Nudgee.

So once again, the threat of a course redesign rears it's ugly head.

I received this today via email form Nudgee G.C :

    Important Notice

Following release of the Federal Government's Budget the subject of upgrade to the Gateway Arterial Roadway is once again on the agenda.

A representative from the State Government has been in contact with the club to commence negotiations regarding potential resumption of land. Due to the complexity of these negotiations it is expected that the negotiating team will be involved for many months to protect the member's interests and the future of Nudgee Golf Club.

I confirm to members that the Board is committed to obtaining additional land so as to retain the 36 hole complex and associated facilities, as currently exists.

As these negotiations develop Members will be kept informed.

The road is far more important than a ho-hum suburban golf course.

I agree that the road is important ... moreso now than when we went through this same scenario a couple of years ago.

I'm more keen to see where they are proposing to get the extra land from ? I know golfer69 could probably answer this as he put a bid in to do the redesign last time also.

It's alright jarro; by the time you make a decision to change clubs we might have a decision on resumption of land.

The extra land was the stuff on the other side of the driving range I think.

    Good one SMS

there is a rare bloated ass frog that lives along the edge of the driving range so that land will not be available,

    Jarro,
how much land do the govt want?

if they just want an extra couple of lanes that wont amount to much. I see plenty of land around the golf course, but I realise it is not as simple as that, obviously rerouting would result in many more holes being affected than just those that get concreted over.

Are they planning on rerouting the road?

Why cant they direct the road to the other side of the river, so as to go all around you. Its all vacant land, so that appears to be less of an obstruction.
There is even opportunity to go around (or even through) the Nudgee rd Petrol station. Surely it would cost the govt less to relocate it rather than 3/4 of a golf course.

Under the first plan Nudgee south would loose 1,2,3,4, half 6, 7

Losing the first hole? Geez, is the new road going through the clubhouse?

Nah but the hole goes nowhere if you take out 2,3,4.

I got a brochure about the Gateway North upgrade in my mail box on the weekend. The PDF of same is here: http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/79...erjune2011.pdf

The only thing that is happening soon is the extra lane between Sandgate Road and Deagon Deviation which is happening in 2012. The rest of the stuff, including the Nudgee interchange, will only have planning finalised in 2012 and works are expected to start in 2020. Plenty of time to sort things out.

I received that brochure in the mail today just.

2020 is way too long to wait for the bottleneck at Nudgee to be sorted out !!!!

I meant plenty of time for the club to be sorted out. I avoid the Gateway northbound like the plague during the week. They say the extra lane near the Deagon Deviation will save more timethan the Nudgee interchange.

The Nudgee interchange is the main problem and should be sorted first IMO

You don't see traffic banked up like that at Deagon.

For those that don't know or care

There is a bit of work being done to the course at the moment.

2 small dams will be installed along the left edge of the first fairway to help control flooding .... the fairway on the 8th hole is being redone, reshaped, contoured, sloped ... so as to stop water lying on it for prolonged periods and therefore ruining the grass. The practice area has been returfed and drainage has been upgraded there also ... making for a much better setup to work on the short game

Also, lots of those bloody awful cottonwoods are being chopped down. About bloody time too i reckon

Dams on the left of 1 makes for an interesting tee shot.

    Sure will Pete.

Depending on how big they are it'll also make the tee shot on 8 interesting as well

Good to see they're doing some work around the place though

Why are they getting rid of the cotton woods between 7 and 8? Don't they have enough trouble with people going on the wrong fairway between those holes?
