Only saw the last few holes but Rory seemed to be killing it. Wouldn't be often than Adam was the short knocker in a group by 20 metres.

So, Rory is now claiming to be still suffering injury, and might not play again this year.

Is this a touch of the Jason Day's? (ie. I'm not quite 100% and I can't be bothered unless I can go full throttle)

A touch of the Tiger's? (ie. I tried to guts it out, but I was in denial. I'd better get this properly fixed)

A touch of the Adam Scott's? (ie. I'm newly married to a top sort. There are better things to do than grind out T19 results every week)

Or will he change his mind in two weeks and win the Fedex Cup just so he can tweet The Elk?

I'm no medical expert, but I couldn't see any physical problems. Maybe Benno_R and Jazz saw something after one of his 350m 3 woods on the range.

Whichever it is, if he isn't totally into it he is probably best off by taking the rest of the year off and recharging the batteries.

It's his ribs still isn't it? So would be a bit hard to actually see anything wrong? But I think I read somewhere that he can't really practice as much as he really needs with it.

So I'll go with number 2 - Tiger.

Where his rib joins his spine. He mentioned that keeping it warm is the key and that overuse can be detrimental.

Surely 4hr a day with wedge would be gentle enough.

Yeah exactly, every highlight of him practicing he was bombing driver. He made 1/33 (Thomas was 12/40) putts outside of 10 feet at PGA...go practice the flatstick maybe.

That’s because putting practice wouldn’t be a “highlight” would it?

Let's not go bagging Rory's putting too much.

He is currently ranked 3rd on putts made from 25ft or more. He actually starts needing to hit his wedges worse, be further away, and drain more bombs. SIMPLES!

Intersting! Yet he's 131st in strokes gained putting.

Exactly, hitting it to close is his problem - not getting a chance to drain the long bombs.

I watched him miss a dead straight 5 footer by a few inches outside the cup at the PGA. It was painful to witness.

I hope he sorts it out, he's great to watch.

Agreed. Even when he's playing crap, he's never boring

As I raised the subject in the first place, I can revisit it with a sense of bemusement.

Now, he is still injured, but not badly enough to miss the Fedex Cup. He is going to take a longish break after the Fedex.

Either he thinks the Fedex Cup is really important and prestigious, or he thinks the money is too good to pass up, or he isn't really injured, just tired of playing golf, and doesn't really know what he wants to do.

Surely if you are injured and need rest, you rest. I can't believe the Fedex Cup has a strong attraction to a player with Rory's record of achievement and bank balance.

He'll either shoot the lights out and win the whole thing, or he will withdraw after the first round if he has a bad one.

He's probably insinuating that he is still injured to take some of the heat off his poor play.

Get on that, it's been some time since he shot the lights out and i'd be surprised if he did a Woods.

My take on it, for those interested.

I think he wants to win, but he just isn't good enough right now. The injury is a convenient crutch for his poor performance. It's hard to say his motivation for the upcoming events.

Unless he has figured out how to use his wedges, I think his appearance is more of a statement to the detracters, that he's willing to grind it out, while he's down.

Either way he'll take his pvt jet home to his big mansion, and bang his hot mrs.

    Good for him.

I just saw, on my replay of the Zozo, our man Rors snap the shaft of his wedge after missing the 18th green with said wedge. Clearly the fault of the club, something I have been saying for years about my own equipment.

It was actually quite impressive how calm he was when doing it, too. No tantrum as such.

The incident didn't even rate a mention in the golf and sport websites that appear in my google news feed. I can imagine the reaction if it had been Patrick, or Bryson.
