Default Would you knowingly use fakes?

Probably a silly question to ask in highbrow club-ho territory like OzGolf, but if you found a set of clubs you knew were fakes, would you consider using them if you found that you could hit them?

Down here in chopper-land, I've now got two mates who knowingly play fakes. One has a set of knock-off Callaways (he calls them his Challaways) that he leaves in his old home town to use when he's back from abroad. He's had them for a few years now. I had a try of one on a par three recently and they felt fantastic.

Another mate of mine knows somebody who regularly travels to China and frequents a shop somewhere that 'sells all the good brands'. He just brought him back a complete set of 'Pings' which are no doubt fake, but they seem OK when he hits them right. I can't use them because the shafts are like spaghetti, but he's pretty happy with them after a trip to the range and one round. The offer is on the table, but I'm still feeling the love for my Nickents.

Is anybody out there dancing with the devil?
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!

My second best round of golf ever was with a knock off set of G5's, they were a bit shorter in length than my cobras... Come to think of it almost like a girls length. I guess I should clarify I did play of the men's tee.

    agreed.

However, there would always be a feeling of unhappiness with them knowing they weren't legit

Many years ago I used an ebay knock-off Ping Craz-e putter. Was the second best putter i've ever had.

I used a copy Ping Scottsdale for 25 years, Dad used it for about 15 before that. That it was made by PGF made it legitimate, I guess anyone that uses a Scotty Cameron is also using a fake Ping

for the average hacker, it would make no difference i reckon.
i consider myself only just good enough to be able to tell the difference.
but if you happened upon something that worked for you,
you'd be crazy not to use it.

but as pointed out earlier, if you're using a Scotty - it's just a ping knock off anyway. So where do you draw the line?

I had a Cleveland DSG wedge which i worked out was fake. The grooves lasted 12 months, the grip about the same. But I holed more chips with that sucker than any other wedge I have ever owned.

Have a fake set of vokey sm sitting in my travel set, couldn't justifying spending another 300 on them, but only got it because the shape and feel was same as my real one (surprisingly) but if they had a different brand on it or no brand I would still buy it.

I game a knockoff 2 ball putter. Looks and feels as good as the original. It stays in the bag because it is the best putter I have ever used. Don't know about irons and woods though. It would seem that the shafts at least would not be of the same quality as genuine gear.
