    Default Perths Golf Coaches.

Unfortunately my swing has gotten that bad recently that I have now no option but to go and see a coach to try to sort it out.

I have no doubt that given enough time and patience, I could eventually find my way back to some solid scores, but I have neither time nor patience so its time to take the plundge.

Who would you rate as perths better coaches.

I've heard David Milne is a gold mine of information is a brilliant teacher, but travelling to joondalup for a lesson doesn't really do it for me. it would end up costing me 2 or 3 times the price of each lesson for the fuel costs. Andy Gott at KB doesn't really work for me either, as he's charging an arm and a leg for his 'special' prices.

I dont necesarily want someone who will strip it down and make me play in the '1 size fits all' swing. I know i have a basic fundamentally sound swing (when I hit it sweet, it goes and goes), but there are obviously things I'm doing wrong, and I need to get some consistency.

    Who would you recommend?

Any tips for coaches who are familiar with one plane swing?

Goflnut saw a bloke on JC's advice and he seems to have come along in leaps and bounds. No way to find it in the morass of WA threads but someone should recall...

    He was SOR too IIRC.

Glenn Carbon at the some range near Leeming. He is quite good apparently.

There aren't any one plane teachers as far as I am aware.

I'd go as far to say as don't limit it to a one or two plane swing.

There are positives and negatioves to both styles.

Yes but you also can't really do both at the same time.

I think Carbon is at the Melville Golf Centre or something.

The main thing is seeing someone who looks at your natural swing and helps you from there. Not someone who wants to try and rebuild you from scratch to line their pockets with numerous lessons.

I have a half a backswing swing. What does that count as?

Carbon is quality. Was teaching at the Melville golf centre last I heard. Keeps it very simple.

Milne will confuse the **** out of you. If you had unlimited time and funds and wanted to overhaul everything, he would be your man.

Yeah I was just reading about that. He apparently takes everything back to scratch and starts again.

Might give Carbon a call. He is only round the corner as well.

I've had some good lessons with Brad Parker at Wembley.

Great guy and he doesn't try and re-build everything from the ground up.

For instance my bad miss is a hook. Rather than change grip and everything else he gave me options - e.g. with this grip you need to swing this way, or change grip and swing another way etc.

Really want you want in a teacher - there is no right or wrong way (as can be seen on any tour around the world), just certain components that do or don't work with each other.
You're in big trouble though, pal. I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast!

I'm an advocate of Paul Smith who teaches with TGM techniques. I was hitting high cuts when I came back to golf and was playing off 15. I haven't had a lesson for a long time, but the techniques have remained with me and got me to where I am now.

    Worked for me.

Not really. He starts by showing how clubs are made and designed to hit the ball and works up from there. No drivers to start with. Wedges first, then work up from there. It's actually really helpful.

The whole TGM thing is really about impact position (at least that's what I got out of it). I had 2 or 3 lessons with the first one going for about 3 or 4 hours. What I learned was priceless.

He gave up teaching. But he was really good. My experience with Rohan at Wembley was similar to bergseys' with Brad. Very good and down to earth.

Paul Smith is good. I may have sounded a little negative yesterday about TGM but he is a good teacher from everything they teach is good. It just messes with my head a little. However as Mega said it will give you a great base to work from.

I was just reading some of his stuff on another site. Ball placement seems to a big part, as well as address and posture. I'm off to the range tonight, so i'll be reading up on his ideas and teachings before i go and see how that works.

Im also taking Fits advice on not launching/ripping through the ball. Lets see how that combo works, and if it shows some success, we'll take it from there.

Oh yeah. Paul Smith likes you to swing at your natural speed. I asked him if I need to slow it down and he just told me to swing it how I swing it.

I think it really suits some people. Paul Smith is pretty good as well cause he talks about Clear Keys and not getting to caught up in the stuff while you are actually playing.

Carbon should owe me a free lesson with all the referrals that I have sent his way.

I met another bloke who is taking lessons off Carbon - he's doing some good things and is taking a good approach. Probably worth checking out. I'll probably check him out in April to get a different perspective.

The thing with lessons is that it does take time for concepts to gel and to understand the teacher approach. It may take a couple of lessons before you find tht the teacher is not suited.

I like Paul Smith, others here don't think much of him. TGM is a methodology and you need to understand that. If you do it halfway, it will bite you at some point.

Paul does not do single hour lessons, he tends to do it in a clinic format. A lot of information that sits in your head and eventually makes sense.

Digressing - played 18 at Lost Farm. In the afternoon with a 40 knot wind. I lost 4 balls and came in with an 89. Played well considering I have had a total of 5 hours sleep over 48 hours.

I feel stuffed now - just kicking back with some bourbon listening to a bunch of guys from the US and here talking about the various courses in Australia and their architecture. They seem to be on 1st name basis with Doak, Clayton etc.

    36 at Barny tomorrow.
