    Default NRL All Stars Match - MUCH better format....

    Obviously just finished watching the All Stars Game... It was a refreshing change from the standard NRL format...

    The things I appreciated were;

    Quarter Time
    Hearing the refs calls
    unlimited interchange
    on field commentating

    The NRL needs to implement more of these elements in order to grow the fanbase for the game. For mine, it's become boring over the last 5 years.... they need to take a leaf from the NFL and other US sports which obviously garner more attention.

    I'd also like to see more "play book" analysis, as well as live calls from the refs. Less dependency on the video would be a bonus too.. But.. certainly implement the quarter time practice.. breaks up a boring game and raises anticipation for an exciting game.

    An explanation Morgy.
    The Dragons are defending premiers. Therefore there is nothing wrong with the game in its current form.

    hmm bit of a white wash in terms of scoring

    Indigenous All Stars were obviously coached too tone down the 'flair' in favor of conservative football.... it cost them the game imho.

    However, it made for interesting viewing in terms of the format, and, it's a great display of sportsmanship and community awareness. There needs to be more positive focus on Indigenous Australians in our media and this is a great way too do it. Fingers crossed it desensitized the bigots and racists I play golf with occasionally to the fact that Indigenous Australia is an important element in our community, and, that it plays a vital role in the development of our culture as a whole..

    That would be nice but it'll be a long hard road to change the mindset of so many.

    The things I appreciated were;

    Quarter Time -Agree with Mike on that bit
    Hearing the refs calls As Mike said it is like that now on ly difference is that it was played to the crowd as well. I think they should not be mic'd up at all for the public. They would then not all try and be celeb refs and just ref teh game if they did not have mics.
    unlimited interchangeI actually want less interchange, at the moment we dont see the ball playing back of the past in the game as much as the big blokes are constantly going off for a break
    on field commentatingget rid of it, was highlighted last night that it was delaying that at one stage you could see the opposing team waiting to kick off as they interviewed Nathan Merritt after he scored

    The NRL needs to implement more of these elements in order to grow the fanbase for the game. For mine, it's become boring over the last 5 years.... they need to take a leaf from the NFL and other US sports which obviously garner more attention.

    See above, it was an exhibition match and that was all it was. I can actually see it losing focus too. I would not want my players playing in it a month short of the season if I were a NRL coach. Especially the younger Titans players that got a run in the indigenous team. What would happen if one of these guys takes out a star from the NRL team. If they want to have it have it after the grand final.

    Why? They make up 2% of the population.

    Last night's game, and the pre-game in particular was nothing more than political correctness gone mad.

    More breaks and more interchange equals more injuries.

    Anyone else see the irony in Andrew Johns interviewing Nathan Merritt and the tone of the interview?

    I didn't see any of the game, but did anyone get any major injuries out of it ?

    I always worry about players getting season-ending injuries in these stupid pre-season matches

    Game should be played after the Grand Final and yes the tone of the interviewee was strained. Johns should be kept off the field and not allowed to interview players, especially indigenous players.

    maybe you're looking for controversy, and only "think" you've found it.

    I didn't see the interview, but here is a different take on it that I found when I was looking for it http://forums.leagueunlimited.com/sh...=376875&page=2

    I was surprised that Learoyd-Lahrs wasn't put on report for sliding into Morris knee-first.

    Pre season matches are a necessity Jarro, but I panicked just a little bit when I saw Morris rolling around in agony after copping some knees in the ribs.

    I watched up until Morris's try. Lost interest after that. Was it that bad?
