It is not like SMS can suddenly drop in a two under because he feels like it.

And for a plus handicap - just keep in mind that you need to have 10 rounds out of your last 20 under par. That is bloody hard and even if you get there - the prizes for scratch nowadays are shit. I won scratch today and got $20 (cost me $12 in comp fees... The net winner beat me by 5 strokes.)

So depending on work, family, social life and whatever else is happening... I would cruise around on 4 or 5 and put some practice in for a couple of decent events and smash them.

    Enjoy.
    agree

we had a guy here who was plus one and then he went to 3 because of work and family - every now and then he'd shoot a 70 off the bat for 40-41 points and win and people whinged - mostly the hackers complaining

shooting that number is still bloody hard to do.

on the other side we had a guy go from 13 to 18 and won our whitnoom cup (our major annual event) I dont trust the guy as far as I can chuck him - just seemed dodgy thats all.

Our local perennial B grade favourite has started his float out to 13, what with the single and 4BBB knockout and of course the club champs coming up, he's due again.

****ers like this should be shot at dawn

There is nothing I want for and thus no need to win a comp. See no need to pay good coin and the reward for improvement is less hits.

Looks like my sandbagging for the OzGolf champs is on track.

Despite hitting the ball really well over the last few months I haven't been able to score. Plus I have to go play a few more club champs round at Dartmoor which has an ACR of 69 so I'll drift out there too.

Should be off about 5 for the champs...

Being new to golf, i dont get the whole concept of sandbagging. Why would you honestly want to spend 5 hours crafting your handicap? Wouldnt you want to go out with the intention of playing your best and aiming for your best score every round?

Is winning comps on an inflated handicap what makes you a real golfer?

No but winning prizes is what a lot of golfers are out to do. And its hard to do that off yur "best" handicap. Much easier to do from 4 to 8 shots worse than what you should be.

Not saying its the right thing to do but as Virge has stated here numerous times, whats the point in being a low marker, shooting 2 or 3 under off the bat and still getting beaten by a guy off 15 who's had 7 or 8 over?

If you are playing for the prize of an incorrectly sized rain jumper and $50 pro shop credit, you have it all wrong.
