    Default Sandbagging

Since the handicap changeover I have gone from +1 to 4. Part of that is due to playing crap. Part due to playing in crappy weather. Anyway...

This playing off 4 bit is not that bad. I don't have to practice. I can play to near enough without any real stress.

My question is this: if I can't win an event what is the point of trying? It is easier to try for 14 holes or so and then re-evaluate. If I am going ok then go for it. If I am a few off then I might as well switch off and take some risks, which for those of you who know PW know that risks will work about 10% of the time.

I might as well play off about 6 and just stuff around and then pull my finger out when it is worth it.

    Thoughts?

That's the spirit, it's what I do. I'm just waiting for the opportunity to shoot a sub par round off 36 hcp at an Ozgolf event.

If you really enjoy taking the risks, why wait for a bad score to set you free?
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!

SMS you have tickets on yourself...sorry on your windscreen wiper.

You could chalk a bad round up to experience...or just chalk up on someones tyres.

AS I always say if you can't handle the heat don't park in a no standing zone

That sucks, I thought i was going bad and I have lost a shot to you, i have gone from 3.6 to 7.8 in 18 rounds (last round not recorded online yet).
at least i have plateaued - i couldn't possibly get worse than this.

The thing that bothers me the most, there is no single part of my game that I can blame for the bad round. Its always a wide range of bad strokes, nothing is consistent.

it's not sandbagging if you're just crap. Reset your expectations and move on.

I think the new system blows out your handicap if you switch off with a few holes to go and lose interest. Whereas before it was only going to hurt you 0.1 or 0.2. Over a 20 round period it is probably worth 2 shots.

Are you morally obliged to try as much on the 18th as you do on the 1st?

How much your handicap can possibly increase by after that round is predetermined before you start that round. So blowing out a score at the end only has an impact if it was going to be in your top 10, so I am thinking that you would not lose in interest if that was the case.

Only if that round is going to be a counter will it matter. I lost interest yesterday once I knew it wouldn't count. It was hard to stay motivated.

That's what I do. I play off 20 but really am a single digit guy. I am just waiting for the nright day to come out of my shell.
I should be off about 7 with the gear I got, at least I look good.
Hey, let's pop some Viagras and issue tickets with raging, mega-huge boners.

I reckon you have more than one digit and you play with them regularly.

I agree mate you just need to concentrate for longer than it takes to walk from the carpark to the first tee...then you would be meeting expectations.

Nothing wrong with looking Tour Issued though!

    sms,

    The system obviously works

You were never a +1 player.

6 is more likely somewhere near where you need to be, as you could play to that at least once a year

I've come down 3 shots with the new system, so it's not the system.

The main reason is that we play for 2-3 bottles of wine across a couple of groups. (Not knowing/trusting what is happening in the other groups means we keep going in hope that a 33 points can secure the last bottle.)

Under the old CCR system, 33-36 points often got .1 back.
Now 33-36 often displaces the tenth ranked score and the handicap comes down.

I see SMS's North Lakes mate has got "Sandbagging" down to a fine art. Looks like he has played the (amateur section of) Sydney Invitational that PShaw won. Nice blowout of handicap by 3 shots in the fortnight beforehand! I have never seen anyone before who can pay within 3 shots of the same score round after round.

Good on him. He would be ecstatic to turn his form around like that.

Really? By that criteria, my golflink looks very suss. Those September comps must have been important to me.

It's nice to hear that this guy is still going strong, but it's a shame that golflink inspection isn't a criteria for winning comps.

SMS, you're not officially a sandbagger until you win something. For the time being just consider yourself an out of form hack.

Good point. Wait until Rusty has to give me shots in the matchplay.
