Had a chat session with someone at telstra yesterday. I had no idea that if you're on a sim only plan, you can get a phone through Telstra and pay it off in installments. Works out nearly $20/month less than getting a phone on a contract... Cool.

OK, 1 month to go on Contract with Telstra, paying $80 per month with 2.5GB data which is probably enough with wifi available at work and home.

Want to stay with Telstra but happy to look at other options, and looking at high end Android. Any recommendations?

Has Vodafail improved? It was 5 years ago I hated them. Do they still suck big dogs balls anywhere that isn't inner city?

I just renewed my Telstra contract for half that, and they rang me! I was on $50 a month before that. New contract includes 5 gig of data. I also have a 2 sim shared data set up for my Tablet which costs $10 a month.

SIM only and buy the phone as a separate transaction might be the way to go.

I've got 10gb, unlimited calls and text for $40 from Optus.

I kind of want to stay with Telstra for the AFL Live data free package which I use every week during footy season...

    Food for thought.

Yep. I ended up back with Telstra after I got 40/month with unlimited text, 1000 of calls and 7gig data.

As I just discovered, the closest plan with a Google pixel was 110/month with unlimited calls but less data. I make all my outgoing calls at work on my mobile and don't even touch my limit.

So SIM only I can but the phone outright from Telstra or the girl in the chart offered me an installment plan over 24 months to pay for the phone which would make my cost 91/month. I never knew about the installment payment option for this on SIM only plans, but if you want a phone on a contract it seems the way to do it. Saves me 19/month for about the same thing.

I just switched to OVO Mobile. $35 a month, unlimited calls and text, and 8GB of data. No contract.

In the process of getting a data only sim for my iPad of 13GB per month for $30.

OVO use the full Optus network, and you get full unmetered access to the V8 Supercars and Australian Gymnastics, if that floats your boat.

If have been very happy to stay on the Optus network but my shed was in somewhat of a black spot. Could have 1/3 to 1/2 the time in there with no signal. Put up with it for years to keep away with Telstra, but getting rid of our home phone soon and will just have one for income calls to the shop and I'll call out on my mobile so needed a consistent signal. It has been nice having free Apple music downloads as I don't have to worry about whether I'm streaming or have it downloaded.

Surprise surprise when you walk in the store it's a totally different story and naturally what I was told was wrong and they're not really the same department or company cause they're really a franchisee so the chart people weren't really representative of them...... But we'll do something but I have to recontact my byo plan which will mean losing my $10 bonus off blah blah blah.....

Tossing up between the Samsung S7 or the iphone 7.

I have an iphone now, but have had Samsung as well.

    Any opinions on either?

    The better hardware? iPhone 7

    The better operating system? iOS.

The better value for money? S7.

Depends on what you value more I guess....

Disagree, but Lefty would have expected that. I think they're both great. What have you had before? That's what I'd be sticking with.

If you've had but I would go which whatever u prefer, if u don't care, go the Samsung as it's cheaper to buy accessories and you can get micro SD cards to increase the memory.

On a 2 yr plan with virgin, they are basically the same price, hence my quandry

They have similarities obviously, but they are different.

In the end they both do do the same things. Me personally I find Android more open and use a few apps to automate things, like changing volumes and turning on and off do not disturb based on various conditions. Most Android devices I've had will play any type of movie file or music file I'll throw at it. iDevices, touted as the ultimate media devices, won't. I hate converting things. Also I can just plug my phone or tablet into my laptop and drag the content over to it on file browser. Can't do that with iDevices, have to use iTunes (Lefty will correct me if I'm wrong).

Personally, I reckon if you've got no real experience with either, then I don't think you'll notice and will love whatever you get. I could sprout on about why I think Android is better, and Lefty will explain why I'm wrong. 99℅ they are similar. It's the little things I like better in Android.

Bluu means accessories are cheaper, I'm guessing like cables and cases. And you can get an SD card for it to significantly increase its storage.

Did anybody in here have the original Samsung Note from like 4 or 5 years ago??

The kids finally found mine the other day and there's some stuff on it I'd like to get off it, but whilst it was 'lost in the abyss' the battery has seemed to put on weight and pretty much exploded!!

So my question is; does anybody still have one of these phones so I could borrow the battery, get the stuff of it that I need too and can give you the battery back when I'm done.......??
I don't feel like paying $80 for a new battery just to retrieve a few pics and files........
