Only took me the install time to work that out! After being instructed to drag and drop, tried copying a album across only to receive an error. Did it using one of their apps but geez, if you are going to sell it as a drag'n'drop, make sure it works!

You download a program called kies registry patcher. When u set and run it it fools kies into thinking you have a different countries phone, in this case you setit or to a particular english model, which is getting the update to 2.2.1. Go to xda forums and search on it. It's easy as and works great. I used it to get froyo in october and now 2.2.1. Out makes a world of difference to the phone!

OK, back on the computer so I'll find the links

Download from this thread and follow instructions. The code you need to select is XEU
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628
Now connect your phone via kies and it should say an update is available to XXJPY. Update and your done.

This is the thread discussing the new versions of 2.2.1. There is XXJPX and slightly newer XXJPY.

For the average person (like clikchic) they are iphones are perfect cause they just work. But I like to toy around with my phones and android suits me perfectly. I'd have been unhappy with an iphone. But they do what they say they'll do.

In effect, my phone could be as simple as one if I wanted it to be. I choose to make thing difficult for myself

I like the idea that you can jailbreak it to "unlock its potential" if you wish. Or you can just leave it as an ipod with a built in phone and internet.

Just to play devil's advocate, if you jailbreak your iPhone you can play with a HELL of a lot of stuff (Not all good, obviously)

Since upgrading to 2.2 I have done nothing with my Galaxy other than use it. Thankfully it doesn't REQUIRE you to tinker with it to be useful.

I'll probably get around to toying with it again soon but due to some health issues lately I've had other priorities for my time.

Actually easy after I investigated why all my incoming calls were instantly disconnecting.

Seems i had to do a factory reset first and than flash. And i used Odin which was a piece of piss.

Heck you don't even need to root it up. Just drop in the afk files and run through a file manager.

Now just to work out which loader to use.

Goughy, how's your battery life with the Galaxy ?

I'm having to recharge it every second day, which i don't consider too bad really, but i don't run anywhere near as many apps as you do.

I have to charge mine at least once a day. If I do nothing with it though it lasts an age.

Seems to be some battery leaks which a few of the updates have tried to fix. Mine seems to be on constant charge but I'm still in the fun setup stage.

Goughy, be sure to download the 64 bit sammy usb drivers as I'm running the same. I needed to turn on usb mass storage on the SGS to get access.

Yeah, just had to find the right drivers and darkly is running now. In reality seems little or no difference in speed to the kies hacked version of 2.2.1 I was running. Different theme though.

I charge mine once or twice a day easy. But I use it a tonne. Always downloading different apps, trying different things and I use it fire my browsing half the time at least.

Darky rom has a lot of the updates built in plus some third party releases like camera hack.

Have the ms getting one today so we can try out the video calls. Will also try hooking this up with Skype/Fring as well.

And as I write this, how good is Sywpe?

I believe there is a new open beta of swype out at the moment. You go to there main website and sign up for it. Otherwise I think one is called slide it. But swype is awesome.

I thought I'd actually hate it but sit here right now shaking my head with the ease of its use.

Now just to work on the voice recognition.
