I don't think so, I've seen it happen in 4BBB comps here, arranged by the pro when groups aren't full.

    Funnily enough it's a 4BBB this weekend...

No, it is discouraged by GA, but seems to still be the norm when there are groups of 3 in 4BBB events.

I've seen it 3 or 4 times. I was told it's stipulated by the club pre round. The ones i have seen it was compulsary that the lowest handicapper swung.

Got into a discussion about this in the weekend: secret harbour have a local rule in the bunkers of lift, smooth and replace. No need to "re-create" the original lie. This came about after all the local little shits used to get on and steel all the bunker rakes.

My question though, is this ok under competition rules? It breaks a number of the rules of golf itself, namely play it as it lies, but I can't think of another solution tbh.

Ppl in general are pretty poor at cleaning up in bunkers, so even with rakes it would be a good chance of playing from a footprint, but u can't normally clean it up and place the ball nicely on top.

A Local Rule must not waive a Rule of Golf, unless authorisation for the modification of the Rule has been given by The R&A.The secret harbour one sounds dodgy

    This.

How else could you handle a group of 3 in a 4BBB?

This is definitely the best way but I have seen it where the odd one out plays single stableford and at the end the singles are drawn at random and a best ball score is worked out for each pair.

What's the ruling on casual water in the rough? Is it stroke and nearest point of relief? Or a free drop.

No different to the fairway, NPR and one club length NNTH. Relief is "Through the Green" and on the Green, plus Bunkers. Only place you can't get relief is in Water Hazards.

If a player has texta marks on his hands and fingers to assist with his grip, is he breaching any rules? I know there are gloves with patterns to aid you to grip the club, but these were on both hands and it seemed wrong. Thoughts?

Agreed, we put markings on our golf balls to aid putting alignment. I can't see the difference.

I could be wrong but lines on a ball come under identification. Lines on a grove is a training aid and a dq. It happen on one of the tours

    2. Gloves (Rule 14-3)
Gloves may be worn to assist the player in gripping the club, provided they are plain.

A “plain” glove must not incorporate:

    features, other than visual aids, designed to assist the player in placing his hands in a consistent and/or specific position on the grip;

    So I don't know for a hand

what if Rubin drew a male mouth on the space between his thumb and forefinger for his own private time, but the moustache could be argued to be an alignment aid when golfing. Can someone check the decisions book?

I think that ruling refers to physical features on the glove, for example ones with a strap that holds hands together, and not lines

I have a question in relation to whether or not something is considered a training aid & therefore not permitted during play.

I have had some serious swing issues in recent weeks after having to rebuild my swing post tendonitis in both elbows. My coach diagnosed what had been causing some massive block pushes this morning. Basically, my left arm was coming away from my body as I cast the club head to the right (the line I used to use when I hit draws only my arm didn't separate from my body then). To fix the problem on the range & get me back to feeling connected we placed a golf glove under my left armpit with the aim to keep it there during the swing. Instantly fixed my issue & when I went out and played this afternoon's comp I just imagined the glove there. 60% Fairways & 55% GIR = massive improvement on recent weeks.

My question is could I actually place a glove under my armpit when playing over the next few weeks or would that be considered using a training aid?
