#4 post hmm I'll think of something.
Hey, let's pop some Viagras and issue tickets with raging, mega-huge boners.

#5 post reserved for bitching and picking on Jarro in the first round.

    And for looking stupid.

Registration has closed and it is time to sort out the draw. We had 35 entries in the end, and clearly this doesn't go into an even draw. So I had some criteria for making it to the full draw.

The first was to have played in last year's matchplay. Conveniently, this breaks it up perfectly.

Congratulations to the following 29 players, who have made it through to the next round:
    • Andyp
    • PeteyD
    • Daves
    • SMS
    • Jaybam
    • GC
    • Lucasto23
    • Rusty
    • Peter_rs
    • Shazza_rs
    • Chop
    • DC68
    • henno
    • ddasey
    • mblakey
    • Eag's
    • damoocow
    • BrisWesty
    • Iain
    • G69
    • nudgee
    • Xray
    • Hux
    • Shavey
    • Goonie
    • jarro
    • Kpac
    • Moe Norman
    • Just
The following six, who did not play OZgolf matchplay for 2010, will need to play a qualifier to reach the main draw of 2011.
    • Timah
    • Ferrins
    • Steve57
    • Poidda
    • steverawlo
    • Oxy
I will release a draw for these three qualification matches very soon, but they will be expected to be finished by Christmas. The Brooky BBQ Bash may be the perfect time to play it.

If ozgolf wants the matchplay to grow, year on year, i'm not sure the precedence of "playing in the matchplay the previous year" is the correct approach.
Not sure what is sorry, but this just seems a little bit "limiting". I'm unconvinced that playing in last year competition entitles people to anything more than those who took a year off, or just want to have a crack this year.

Effectively i think the matchplay should start this round rather that at the 32 players. And i'd prefer 'random' qualifiers. My opinion only (any you're admin, so delete this post if you like )

Can we call the first matches the "qualifying round", followed by the "first round"? We don't want jarro making it into the 2nd round two years in a row.
    Forum needs more banter.

Pretty sure the criteria were outlined in the nomination thread.

I think I mentioned it, but I didn't really outline it.

The reason I chose that criteria is that those players from last year, have recently proven that they will get a match played, and not put there name down in the matchplay only to pull out later on. I hate seeing forfeits.

I've already used the term "qualifiers" and "main draw" to avoid that nasty situation.

Just do the draw already. You put in the extras as Q1, Q2 and Q3.

That's what I am going to do, Petey. I'm not going to wait for the other matches to be played. Several matches should be able to be played without waiting for the qualifiers.

No need for randomness for the first three matches, I'll just go off geographic location to hopefully assist in their completion.

sounds good to me. I suppose you also made sure that of the 29 who pre-qualified than none forfeited last year in the first round?

I think BV was the only one to forfeit last year that is on this year's list, but that was after two ties with Iain.

The draw is coming together. I am currently transforming it into something more readable, but I thought this was worth putting up to get the discussion going, as you can see who your first round opponent is.

I decided to keep the main draw completely random in the end. The positive is that noone plays someone they played last year in the first round. I haven't had a close look at the draw yet, but there is a potential final replay as early as the second round.

Here's what a random draw generator website spat out:

    Round 1

Match 1 - goonie vs jarro
    Match 2 - Daves vs Winner Q3
Match 3 - PeteyD vs ddasey
Match 4 - just vs Xray
    Match 5 - Shazza_rs vs Moe Norman
    Match 6 - Peter_rs vs dc68
Match 7 - Rusty vs SMS
    Match 8 - Lucasto23 vs Hux
    Match 9 - Winner Q2 vs kpac
Match 10 - Choppa vs Iain
    Match 11 - Winner Q1 vs golfer69
Match 12 - Jaybam vs shavey
Match 13 - damoocow vs AndyP
Match 14 - nudgee vs GC
Match 15 - markTHEblake vs BrisWesty
    Match 16 - Eag's vs henno
    Note:
    Q1 Ferrins v steverawlo
    Q2 poidda v Oxy
    Q3 Timah v Steve57

    Round 2

Match 17 - Winner of Match 8 vs Winner of Match 13
Match 18 - Winner of Match 2 vs Winner of Match 4
Match 19 - Winner of Match 15 vs Winner of Match 16
Match 20 - Winner of Match 10 vs Winner of Match 14
Match 21 - Winner of Match 1 vs Winner of Match 9
Match 22 - Winner of Match 7 vs Winner of Match 5
Match 23 - Winner of Match 11 vs Winner of Match 12
Match 24 - Winner of Match 3 vs Winner of Match 6

    Round 3

Match 25 - Winner of Match 23 vs Winner of Match 20
Match 26 - Winner of Match 19 vs Winner of Match 18
Match 27 - Winner of Match 17 vs Winner of Match 21
Match 28 - Winner of Match 22 vs Winner of Match 24

    Round 4

Match 29 - Winner of Match 25 vs Winner of Match 27
Match 30 - Winner of Match 26 vs Winner of Match 28

    Final

Match 31 - Winner of Match 29 vs Winner of Match 30

Sweet as. Providing it doesn't pour down Wednesday, I should get my last handicap card in. Having said that, the way i've chopped it around in recent weeks, it'll be on par with Solarman!
