I stand by the fact; If one of the players is there and willing to play, and the other opts not to, it's BAD FORM.

It was just an arbitrary day for point of discussion, I just plucked out saturday because it is the main day for male club golfers to play.

However the wider the window you give to play we end up back where we started. for example I can hardly play on sundays because I am committed to golf elsewhere for over 20 Sundays between Dec and Aug. So if I am drawn against Jarro, you want to play Sunday, I want to play Saturday, and its the same crapola all over again

I'm sure there will be games organised at the common ozgolf haunts, but see no reason to limit the courses. Wherever suits.
Because it seems that some of the half arsed attempts to organise games are because they cant decide where to play for reasons such as travel, cost, availability etc.

    - No entry fee. I creates too much of a ozgolf fuss.
    Thats the whole point

When a value has been associate with something, even if its only small, its a simple fact that we humans tend to be better committed or care more. I recall working at a place where we all got car park access cards. Every buggar kept losing them, once they instated a $10 fee for a new card, very few got lost.

If we had 2 weekends per round dedicated, where everyone was to play their matches, it would be a case of name and shame those that failed to complete their match.
And when that happens we are back to square one with the whining that it is all to hard and they wont participate again.

We are all on the right track though. Just make some clear definitions, tight windows, and incentives and everyone is happy and those who cant commit wont. Simple

I'm with G69 - the Masters will take over this joke of a comp next year.

I am liking the round robin idea - forfeits will have little impact and semifinalists would have played and won some games.

whichever option we take the success will depend on people taking it serious enough to commit but not too serious that matches are not played because certain greens don't suit one's stroke or fairways are too tight or the sun and uranus are not lined up properly!!!

I cut my hand and still played as planned and lost 6 & 5 but at least I didn't jerk my opponent around. Got no interest in playing this again.

was happy to play, but didn't care either way as we both agreed it would be easy to organise another time. I also prefer not to play matchplay in a comp, but wouldn't actively avoid it at the expense of a match.

At the time, it was going to be very easy to find another opportunity and we BOTH agreed, it wasn't just Pete.

Not like it matters, its a forfeit due to a broken frickin arm, not an inability to arrange a game, and is not Pete's fault in any way!

The event itself is fine. However it is the partcipants who make it what it is.

I beg to differ Blake, if the event itself was fine then we would not have the same problems every year we run it.
I for one will give it a miss next year and by the looks, I won't be the only one.

if you are not keen then you are not keen. No shame in that. However i am pretty sure you have said almost exactly the same thing in a previous year?
