Would it not make those with limited availability consider whether they could actually afford the time to play??

At the moment it's become anyone put you name down, and then if you can't play just forfeit. I'm sure there are plenty of others that would like to see the competition exist. At the moment the two problems are:
    - the number of walkovers meaning the people that put their name down for matchplay are not getting to play the competition
    - the legitamacy of the competition seeing some people are winning 3 matches to get to the 3rd round and others are winning none, and are their opponent.

For the sake of the competition i thought it would help.... when we're looking close to 1 in 3 games being forfeited, i would have thought suggestions on competition improvement warranted?

    OK one & all.

I apologise for throwing a spanner in the works. I committed to the matchplay with every intention of getting my games done. Unfortunately it so happens that round 2 was during a hectic period at work and 2 of the kids got sick this week. Well s**t happens.

A lot of finger pointing going on, blaming this that and the other. Well as I mentioned it was my fault.

So to end things here, I am out. The powers that be can decide wether Pete_RS goes through or if PeteyD gets a run. Honestly I am over it.

Pete isn't going to play a matchplay game during Nudgee plate so forget it. The powers that be who are deciding the outcome of this match are Pete and Dave and that decision was made when Dave forfeited. No one else gets a say so back off everyone.

It's a personal choice. He doesn't like to play a matchplay event during a big event. He wouldn't give a shit if it was in a run if the mill sunday comp.

What does this have to do with you? Is the outcome directly affecting you.

Besides nudgee plate is already past the deadline. If he was going to extend the match then he would still be trying to organize something with ddasey not peteyd

Yes it directly affects me because I live with him! If people were slagging off your wife would that not affect you?

In fairness, if ddasey withdraws, (which he seems to have) the precedence would be for PeteyD to be PeteRS' competitor. In which case the match would be overdue yes, but still in need of completion.

I had to withdraw after defeating pete rs the other year. Even after i played DC for a draw, pete was put back in the competition in my place...

I'm not saying that it correct, but that seems to be precedent.

The whole point of the Ozgolf matchplay is to allow people to play matchplay that normally wouldn't. Not to continuously have walkovers.

I said Peteyd, because he played ddasey last, and there is a precedent from a few years ago that the person who WD's is replaced by the person they played and beat previously.

I agree that it gives people a chance to play matchplay who otherwise might not get the opportunity. But there are deadlines in place for a reason. Both times a game was organised and both times his opponent has forfeited. Is it really his fault if he doesn't want to **** around and try to organise another match with another opponent when deadlines are already passed?

But it's not really in the spirit of the competition either.

And since when have deadlines been a big issue? Walkovers are a bigger issue.

Maybe we should make it that the deadline rule is enforced strictly then.

If you haven't played by the due date then that's it ... game over !!

The person who agrees to play the game at the set date, then backs out.

If both parties have agreed on a date to play .. then whoever bails falls down.

Unless of course they still have a reasonable amount of time to arrange another game.

Sorry shaz, but i cant see any reason for a result to the match, when there is a competitor waiting (albeit a late inclusion)
Pete has been on the receiving end of a re-inclusion before as well. I'd imagine he'd understand.

But all in all, there does need to be some rule clarifications for future years.
