Because they have to make time or not play.
If u can not make the second weekend your out and u have a week for the sub to play.
I believe the issuse is there is to much time so people put it off.
Or
If I new matchplay was the last weekend of the month for feb to jun then u could plan... People make majors and the champs.
Are any "comps" run on such open time tables?
I am with Just, I wont be playing in this next year either.
I know what you are saying there, its a bit of a bummer to try and figure out who really forfeited, I do not know think that there is any reasonable solution to improve it. I know some people say that its not too hard to organise a single game of golf inside of two months, but gee it does happen too much I think the main hindrance is a preference to play neutral courses, that almost always puts Saturdays out of the question, or expensive.
It is fun on one hand, but it's no fun if there are walkovers. Winning only feels good when you get to spill some blood as well Some people will move heaven and earth to play their matches (being unemployed helps!) and others place a bigger priority on work, family and other golf, Thats life!Have you also considered Andy that you take the whole thing too seriously? It's supposed to be a fun thing like the rest of the comps.
I would'nt like to see people get 'suspended' for a year or more because they were unable to arrange their matches, but gee, if they have done it more than once then maybe they shouldn't be playing.
God I hate it when you make sense Blakey.
Worst matchplay ever.
So do you have to get the jacket tailored again to fit him after he lost all the baby weight??
Oh congrats on the birth of your baby gc.
Ok am I missing something
Semi 1- Kpac Vs Iain
Semi 2- Qtr 3 Vs Qtr 4
Quater 3- Xray Vs Westy (has this happened?)
Quater 4- Moe Vs Peter_rs (sometime this week waiting on moe)
Who cares?
Negative on Quarter Final 3.
Jay I would like at least one round this year.
You seem to be giving moe more of a chance than your last few opponents though mate.
I think so.
If I new I had an opponent to play in the next round I would not.
hence my post, If Westy gets a WO and moe doesn't get time this week then I would push, but given moe has a new baby and a wife just out of hosipital I'm giving him every chance.
Revisions to the format should be mooted by the end of the year. There are far too many issues with getting things done on time or even at all.
I doubt we'll find a perfect system, but there must be some improvements, otherwise the competition itself will continue to loose credibility.
The idea of not taking things serious is one thing. But if you do enter, there is a degree of responsibility required to make things happen. I'd like to see 2012 walk-over free.
I like the idea of the "dedicated ozgolf matchplay weekends".
Back to back weekends could be scheduled at the outset of the competition for each stage of the matchplay. If someone is aware of commitments on these dates, it should be their responsibility to request available dates of their opponent outside the schedule weekends, and offer to play one of those date (opponent should provide 3 options). If the match still doesn't happen they are deemed to have lost the match.
The advantage is that the whole forum would be aware of the dates, and there would be a few games organise the same weekend making options abundant.
I rarely get to play at ozgolf days anymore but really enjoy the matchplay comp. I think some structure would assist with the event occurring as i'd prefer it not to die out.

Hmm two of the unemployed have had issues playing matches within the time frame
I think whether you work or not means little. And what sort of an idiot places greater priority on their family or work.....FFS surely Ozgolf matchplay is more important than those mere bumps on the roadmap of life.

I pm BW 2 weeks prior to the time running out that I forfeited, due to my working the 2 weekends and him not being able to play midweek. I should have added Andy in on the decision. My apologies all.
I have forfeited because I broke my arm again on Sat.
first time I have ever forfeited. We had trouble getting it organised as Pete is away alot and everytime he returned and made himself available (heaps of times) something came up, most recently, a baby!
in hindsight we should have played at Nudgee Plate, but neither of us were keen and at that stage it appeared it would be simple to find another opportunity.
either way, had I won, I'd be forfeiting anyway, as I'm in plaster for 9 weeks

"I had played so poorly recently, I started thinking that maybe I should do something else. Then I saw my friends going to work every day and realised that my life wasn't so bad." -Steve Pate
Agree with all of that in general, I was thinking along the same lines, something like this;
- set Dates. You know from the beginning when each round to be played, and no clashes on or close with other major ozgolf events.
- set courses. pick out a small number of courses that are available to us on Saturdays at reasonable rates and locations.
- set a entry fee of $20, and pay out in instalments to the winners in each round, so that the eventual winner gets half the pool.
There are reasons behind all the above, but should be obvious. If not please ask for further information before objecting
