Default 2011 Qld Matchplay - Register by 31/10

It's time for some nominations for the next matchplay season. Last year we had 33 nominations, but with a forfeit early, we ended up with a full 32 person draw.

Starting up now means there could be some qualifers played before the new year, if necessary, so I will accept more than 32 players.

There was some talk last year of having pools, but I don't think it will work as we have too many people. More matches equals more forfeits, although we did well this year.

Note that nominating for this comp, means you may need to make a sacrifice at some stage to get your match played. If you know you will won't have much time to play, and it will be difficult to organise a match, don't bother nominating.

The draw will not be completely random, particularly in regards to qualifying. For example, newbies and forfeiters may have to go through qualifying. Last year's semi-finalists will be in separate quarters of the draw too.
I might also look at making sure you don't play someone in the first round, that you played this year. After all, it is a quasi-social comp.

How does a $5 entry fee sound to organise prizes for the winner and runner-up? Any love for a third place playoff as well?

Nominations will close on Oct 31, so put your name down and PM others to put their name down.

I want to play Andy in the first round. Makes sense since he won and I came last.

If you are after a perpetual trophy for the winner/runner-up I'll front up the funds and buy some nice ones. If you are going to turn this into perpetual fee then count me out.

Just out of sheer curiosity, what is the reasoning for being against a minimal entry fee? It has to be a moral objective, because it surely can't be over the exorbitant cost.

I thought it would be better to have dedicated prizes for the matchplay winner and runner up, instead of just taking a few from the Champs donated prizes pool each year for the winner only.
I was also considering perpetual and yearly trophies.

    Agreed.
Trophy, embroidered shirts for winner/runner up, biggest schallacking...the minimal fee opens up plenty of options for this...

Hey, i've not long popped my OzGolf cherry, i'm no good at history yet!

But wouldn't you rather a 'whipped' trophy or something to be presented on a perpetual basis?

Because we are now making Ozgolf a fee for play place. It's one thing paying green fees and comp costs but now we are suggesting for every event (as per the other thread) that compulsory costs are added on top. You will drive away participants, especially high handicappers/non-regular golfers/those who aren't liquid. Why increase barriers? You blokes are the one who perpetually crap on it's about the participation and meeting up in the flesh with people you rarely see and then you want to start adding money and prizes to everything. Hypocrites.

It's obviously not about the money for me, I do alright, and I've already indicated that I am willing to front up with nice perpetual prizes.

And following on from that if I am required to start paying for Ozgolf events, over and above comp/green fees, then I want fair access.

    What he said ^

I have been against the ever growing fashion of extra fees for nearly every ozgolf event there is. Whether it be a compulsory $5 to play matchplay, or pressure for $10 in the punt.

I can afford it, but its just dumb and I also think it may drive others away that can't afford it.

Has nothing to do with me never winning anything, promise.

69er got it for at least an OZgolf year before it got taken down. He didn't even finish the job and win the final.

Can I buy one of the players that don't want to donate towards the prize? I've never owned a sporting team before.

I'd be like Clive Palmer, and make them wear those stupid ****ing hats.
