We've had a Mystar HD box for a few years now and I've had problems from day one. I've sent 4 of them back for freezing, jumping/stuttering, rebooting themselves, etc. We pay about $168.00 per month for 2 boxes and we've had Austar/Foxtel for 12 years. I was watching the golf this morning and it froze just as Jason Day hit his tee shot down the 18th with a 1 shot lead. Last straw.
I rang Foxtel and got put through to several different departments until I was eventually cut off. I rang back (pissed off) and explained it all again. They offered 2 IQ2 boxes for a charge of $75.00, but I'd lose free-to-air channels. I said no thanks, I'm not paying you more for less service. They then offered 2 IQ3 boxes for $150.00 each. I queried the fact they had changed the current boxes several times without fixing the problem, and the only way they can fix the problem is if I get an updated box and pay them another $300.00. I also reminded them that I currently pay $2000.00 per year for sub-standard equipment and have probably paid them about $20K as a long term customer. I said it's unreasonable to charge me more money to replace their faulty equipment. They said they do not provide their latest equipment at reduced prices, and would not budge on price. I said cancel it......... They called my bluff...........
Boy am I in the shit when the wife and kids find out.

Anyone had a go at getting HD thrown in?
It irks me that they charge $10 for this service.
I spend $60/month atm really don't see the value in another $10

I'm paying $60 a month for iq3 (I think, I can record 2 shows at the same time and watch a 3rd channel ), sports and HD. From my understanding is they are desperate to retain customers as Netflix and Stan etc are eating into their market share.

We are dropping back our Foxtel for that very reason. We smash Netflix and watch Foxtel bugger all.

I guess the beauty of the Netflix/Stan models, are if you run out of content, just cancel. Something comes on that you wanna watch, sign up again.

Realistically, should Foxtel start to offer specific channels/packs for a decent price, they will stand a chance at competing. I just want the sport, but will forego that as it's an expense I'm not making great use of.

You can definitely get the HD for free, I am paying $50pm for the base pack plus sport and HD. It was only a 6mth deal though, I'm planning on phoning them in a few months when it runs out and trying to get it extended.

It's Telstras internet service, so will be fine. Foxtel is just rebilling it.

Hence why it's hideously expensive for its entry level plan.

Where I live, telstra is as cheap as anyone else.

Probably that's the case for most of Australia who can't get NBN - unless there is non Telstra DSLAMs in your exchange, Bigpond is not terrible value these days. The ADSL market is basically buggered as ISPs consolidate and energies are focused on the NWO of fibre.

I pay telstra $85pm for 500Gb and phone rental. I don't think that is hideously expensive.

No neither do I. Do you get a single bill discount or something? That's $10 cheaper than the BigPond website.
I have home phone and Internet with Internode, I pay a bit more than that (my bills would be between $90-100/mth depending on calls). On paper it's a lot less data (100gb) but uploads aren't counted and Netflix is quota free, and it also includes a static IP, on a better (arguably) network - but who knows what will happen now TPG are buying iiNet.

The phone rental is $24, and $60 for internet - it is an old plan with a $20 discount added. If I change to new plans it would be $89 I think. The 500 gb is ridiculous though. They recently doubled it, I don't even use 200gb. If I changed to internode, For the Same money $80 bundled I get 100gb ( because I am on a Rim)

Fair enough. Like I said though the data allowances aren't the same. If uploads are counted that adds a bit. If you use lots of say, Netflix (like I do) then that tips it in Internode's favour too. Telstra have quota free Foxtel, which I don't tend to use much of, unless the wife has commandeered the TV with the Foxtel box and I really want to watch something.
Also Internode's support has always been significantly better, though it has dropped a bit since iiNet took over it still hasn't stooped to Bigpond's level. That means something to me, even though I very rarely have to call them.
It's horses for courses. Like I said there's a good chance I'll be leaving Internode if TPG ruin them, which would be a shame (I have been with them for over a decade).

Telstra will soon have all of them quota free Foxtel, Neflix, Presto, and thingo.

I doubt it. They part own Foxtel who part owns Presto. As a company Telstra are not known for cannibalising their own profits (quite the opposite).
If they did it they'd be effectively admitting that people are choosing Netflix over their own products because it's superior. Which it is.

Netflix are quota free with iiNet and Optus. They have stated they will be avoiding these agreements going forward.
