I am being realistic. You keep stating home course as if it's a big thing. I had one year's membership there 20 years ago so I could play social games on the cheap. The course has changed and I have played it maybe 3 times in 10 years.

You played both jarro and nudgee at their current home course, yet you are worried about Horton giving me a "distinct advantage"? It's a bit confusing.

You seem rather obsessed with not playing it at Pelican Waters though!
No, the venue has nothing to do with it. As I've said before (and others agree), you don't mix Champs with matchplay. One of them has to be sacrificed.

It's also worth noting that I've played it plenty of times. Home course advantage?

I am working next weekend so can't play any time before then...sorry.
I guess that means you have some weekdays off then. Which ones?

It's about time we played in the same group. I've heard that it's a fun day in your group albeit with plenty of sledging.

I don't see it as unreasonable to say no to not playing on a course you were a member on vs one I have never played. I guess I could have SMS as my caddy (ROFLMAO)/adviser so I could have advice on the route and line of play

Yes cause I have played Nudgee north & south quite a few times and it makes it easy to get the game done.

As a debutant in the MP my understanding was it had to be played in the weekend of the champs and the MP final was played on the Saturday before. If this isn't the case - I am happy to play it after the champs if we can't arrange it before.

You being silly? I've played it 3 or 4 times before so I know at least the general layout and what holes are what.

Yes I had them off this week. Take them off anywhere in the block roster period. Could play next Sunday but not early as I will finish late.

Well since its a game not played for sheep stations the aim is to have fun. Nothing funnier than sledging someone who is a distinctly better player - even better if someone is new in the group and hasn't seen a 20+ marker sledge a low singles marker.

In reality this may be MP but since the aim of golf is to get the ball in the hole in as few a strokes as possible regardless of whether it is stroke, stab or MP I am confused why it makes it harder to play MP at PW? MP seems to be about keeping the ball in play and not loosing it if you lose a hole...pretty much like getting over it when you wipe a hole in stab?

But the Ozgolf games are actually the first match play games I have played in my life so what woudl I know!
    Cheers

I have an idea. If we could organize a big screen in the function room onthe Saturday night I will bring the ps3 up and you guys could go head to head on tiger woods 2011. That way we all get to watch and sledge from the sidelines????

The real issue is that you haven't played it before and I have, not my previous membership. If it was at Headland GC (assuming you haven't played it before), would your reaction be any different?
You can have Blakey and SMS as caddies if you really want. Blakey probably knows the slopes on all of the greens.

If this isn't the case - I am happy to play it after the champs if we can't arrange it before.[/quote]It is meant to be played by the Champs weekend. It was played at the Champs previously because it was convenient for the two opponents previously, as they didn't play together beforehand or on the Friday.

You being silly? I've played it 3 or 4 times before so I know at least the general layout and what holes are what.
I was being a little silly. I was just making the point that my membership at HP isn't the issue, just that I've played it more than you, the same as Pelican. The problem is that the count is Lots to Zero in my favour, not 10 or so to 4 like Pelican. I can understand you not wanting to play at a course you haven't seen before, but I disagreed with using the membership as the reason.

Yes I had them off this week. Take them off anywhere in the block roster period. Could play next Sunday but not early as I will finish late.
I don't have any locked in plans next Sunday, or the Wednesday/Thursday following.

In reality this may be MP but since the aim of golf is to get the ball in the hole in as few a strokes as possible regardless of whether it is stroke, stab or MP I am confused why it makes it harder to play MP at PW?
Stroke and Stab are about getting it in the hole in the least amount of strokes. Matchplay is about getting it in the hole in less strokes than your opponent. There are several scenarios where you would play differently based on whether it was a stroke/stab or matchplay situation.

    Here's one example:
You have a tricky downhill putt, but your opponent has chopped it up on the hole, so you can still win the hole by three putting. However, you need a one putt to avoid wiping the hole in stableford. How do you play this one?

Surely they would concede the hole in that scenario, before that putt is hit.

I certainly did yesterday. Hit 10/14 fairways, 2 par 3's to within 2 metres, the other 2 just off with no issues for approach. Putted well....some spastic had a snake in my hand not a wedge. After 3 weeks of Brisbane bunkers where when they are wet they are hard I was FAARKKED by Bribies soft heavy wet sand. Plus couldn't hit an approach shot. Big change from a week ago - but hey that is golf.
    25/09/10Bribie Island GC (Stableford)72 71 97 31 20 26 20.4. If I had played any worse I would have gone out to 21 again

I dead set feel like leaving Bribie sometimes - that course and I have a love hate relationship.

Yeah Ferrins, I overthought it, by adding the stableford stuff, but there are definitely situations where you err on the side of caution for a two putt, rather than being aggressive for a one putt.

Hux, I can guarantee Andyp doesnt know the course, since he was a member the course has been rebuilt. Some hole routings are the same but the greens and fairways are completely different now.

FFS, choice of venue should be acceptable by both parties! If hux is not happy with HP and Andyp is not happy with PW then do the final after ozgolf champs - deadlines have been extended before

Sunday afternoon was a chance right up to starting work this morning.

I have to go to work at 2pm for 2 or 3 hours. Hmmm if I rush home I will catch most of the RL GF....

Oh, I thought Sunday morning was out in addition to the afternoon.

Yeah, I guess Nudgee or Pacific are the only real options for a Sunday morning, and Nudgee would be the easiest to get on. Do you want to start a thread?

Sunday morning is okay just not early...as in 6.30 or the like.

Anywhere from @ 7.30 onwards would at least allow me a few hour sleep

I should have known that it would be Nudgee South. That is amusing in an ironic sort of way.

Should this thread be called the Qld Matchplay Final.
Maybe SEQ Matchplay Final would be better.
Otherwise we will dis the lot of you and become our own state as well. After all we give you food, milk, coal, great sportsman...the list goes on.
