Lowest 4Ball Ambrose you have seen?
Now I know its a stupid game and should really be canned but the Police, Corrective & Emergency Services Shield was on Monday. We rocked up with a reasonable team of golfers with real handicaps 5,9,14 &20. So 6 1/8th was the handicap.
Just as they are briefing the teams the organiser says "If you don't have a handicap - use something that approximates your golfing ability"!!!!
WTF!!!
So out we head and we are carving it up - even I am knocking wedges to 2 & 3 feet. finished poorly but with a gross of 60 at the Glades we were pretty happy. A bit more luck and we MAY have had 2 or 3 less than that.
So out they roll with the winners.....48 1/4 nett. We looked at each other and laughed. Then 2nd 48 1/2 3rd 48 3/4. Finally they get to 10th...us on 53 7/8th on a count back.
We were just laughing our heads off at how stupid a comp it can be and then worked out that the winners would have had to have claimed a handicap of 24 each and shot a gross of 60 to have had their nett score.
Blody trophy hunters is all I can say- and for the record they were not cops!
Anyway whats the best you have heard?
Cheers
Craig

I played in one a couple years back. The guy who invited me and paid my entry insisted that because I did not have an official handicap (my club had gone bankrupt for the 12th time), I had to play off of 25, as stated in the rules.
We shot 12 deep and a net 47.
The embarrassing part was, the captain of a club I had played in pennants saw me and even asked what I was playing off of.
Thankfully, even if I played off scratch we would have won.
The guy that invited me even tried to cheat on the final hole by using my tee shot when we had to use our other members.
A week later, the same guy invited me to play in a tournament that he was hosting and somehow, my handicap was reduced to 5, as I was not on his team.
He is a former AFL player, who played for Collingwood. I guess that shows his true colours.

I like the one I played where they reversed the order of prizes for top 10 placings.

I saw a group have gross -19 at Oxley.
They were all 3 markers or less.

I recall Stoney had 18 under at brookwater with his insurance mates. He holed out on 18 among several eagles.

I know some guys who had 53 around Yunta 30 or so years ago. From vague memory of their handicaps it probably would have been about 52 point net.

Myself, my brother and 2 mates (handicaps of 4, scratch, 3 and 4 shot 26 under for 27 holes in feb last year on a course of 6000 meters.
Only had one eagle for the day. Parred the second last hole.
Devestated.
Oh and I just remembered we parred a par 5 too, first hole of the day.

Yes you get some pretty good gross scores when you get low markers together, but they don't make much of a dent in their net score with 1/8th of SFA hcp.
Unless you have 3 or 4 JC's in a group who are low singles playing with high handicaps it is hard to get that sub 50 nett though isn't it?

Holden Scramble 2 weeks ago at our club, a team of visitors off 1,9,19 and 35 (hcp had nett 46!!! Trophy hunters!!!
That event is a joke.
You don't see scores like that when it gets to Regionals and they have independent markers and a pro watching over them!!!
