Default Golf Course Open Day Thread

Just thought I would remind everyone that there is a thread with plenty of open comps around the SE Qld area listed here:
    http://www.ozgolf.net/forums/showthread.php?t=473

I have made a couple of updates, but I'm sure there are a few that may be outdated.
If you have any to add or update let me know.

If any of the other areas, eg Sydney Area, want to compile a list, we can make a sticky for that too.

Here's some info I've just received about some trial Coolangatta Tweed Open Days:

CTHGC has listed the first Monday, Wednesday and Friday of January and February 2008 as “Open” Competition days. All AGU & WGA Golfers are invited to play in the relevant competition for only $9.00pp. Time sheets open 7 days prior to the day of play as per normal. Please ring the Pro Shop on 07 55 245 545 to book your tee time.

Monday, Friday - mixed and Wednesday - men on the competition course of the day.

I've confirmed that the $9 is inclusive of the green fee. How good is that? Sounds like a great deal for you Gold Coast guys.

Oxley's in good nick - a bit of greenery and a bit of grass - what more could a golfer want?? smoother greens, a little slower maybe (easier for my wandering putting) and sand, sand, give me lots of sand in bunkers, instead of bare, hard lies. although a tight lie for me's always easier than a sand, bladdy sand.
Thanks for the update .. it's been yonks since i played Oxley, might be time to head over for an Open day

shock, horror! there i was handing over the moula for the Gailes Sunday comp, only to be told that it's gone up! what! not just 10 or 20%, but 50%. that's right, the cost of a bit of Sunday masochism has gone up a whole 50%. no wonder the RBA has to exercise monetary policy to tame that dreaded inflation animal. yep, it's not really rising petrol, food or wages that's causing the problem - it's the rising cost of golf! (i'm sure it's factored into the inflation animal somewhere, gotta be).

but still now that i've slept on it and calmed down, $15 for that course on a Sunday is still bloody good value (no change that i know of for the other days $).

hey nice addition of the Monday Trainee Pro-Ams btw.

You guys have it too easy, most open days down here are edging towards $30. Some of the better courses are now pushing $50+.

its because salaries are higher in sydney- thus everything else costs more.

In fact we could say relatively speaking, you guys have it easier down there.

What if your wage is on a national award thei it is not better than someone not in Sydney. Most of the time only the top end of town get to negotiate their wage according to where they live.

Why does everything come down to how much someone earns?

I earn shit so I can come down on everybody!!

I would say that if I lived in Sydney I wouldn't be playing golf. Considering the dearest game of golf I've every played was at Pelican Waters, and that was 50bucks. You could also say that I'm a cheapskate too!

After playing at Nambour, I saw a Peregian Springs leaflet on the noticeboard. They have an open comp on one Sunday of the month for $49.50. If you break your handicap, you get a prize of some sort.

    The dates are: 3/1, 7/2, 7/3, 11/4, 2/5, 6/6.
    http://www.peregianspringsgolfclub.com.au/contents/5719

It's a private golf club, so I will be keen to take advantage of this offer on one of those dates. Although I can already rule Jan, Feb and June out.

Sounds good. Looks like a nice course. Doesnt look like you could book groups as such. Have to fill in entry form to get spot in the draw. Still be a good day for 50 bucks though.

It's one of the few Sunshine Coast Courses that I haven't played. Noosa Valley, Kabi and Glenview Par 3 are also on the list.

played Mt Warren Park yesterday. good condition. interesting holes. undulations. greens still a little bumpy from recentish renos. they could do with some more bunkers (none on front 9) though interesting enough greens. a good Sat alternative if needed.

According to Ashgrove's fixture book, they have open comps on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. I have no idea of price, but I can't imagine it being too much. Every third Thursday appears to be a Blue Marker comp too, if that's your bag.

I don't remember it being a good course, but it's nice to try different courses sometimes.

I didn't get around to playing this comp, but I'd still like to, especially with the visitor price at $35.

    Here are the 2011 dates: 13/2, 13/3, 10/4, 1/5, 5/6, 10/7, 14/8, 18/9, 9/10, 13/11

I also made note of a few other Sunshine Coast open comps coming up.
    26/3 - horton park open
    17-18/9 - Noosa Lakes Open - Tew/Noosa
25/9 - Glasshouse Mountains Open champs - Northlakes
    2/10 - Mt Coolum Open
    9/10 - SC&SBDGA Open - Kingaroy
    15-16/10 - Nambour Open
    30/10 - Peregian Springs Open

The Sunshine Coast golf website, http://www.sunshinecoastgolf.org, is a good resource for these and other comps.
