I dont doubt that... but whats in it for Labor? They already get favourable reporting from the ABC.

No one watches the ABC, or much TV or main stream media anymore.

Ok, not many then, especially compared to newer media.
I don't watch any OTA TV. And I don't watch the ABC on principle.

I listen to ABC national AM in the car every day. Because i like the cricket, and Steve Austin is always on to/from work. He isnt like a normal ABC presenter.

And so i dont have to change the channel when i drive more than 40k

For an added bonus, when some other peanut is on, stops me from noticing all the bad drivers.

I used to listen to the ABC (especially when the cricket was on) on long trips up and down the coast to the in-laws, until they started to lose their minds and I haven't turned it on since. It's just not worth the risk of becoming dumber or really angry.

Back to the SM ban, maybe it'll be a bit like banning cigarettes for kids? Sure, plenty still do it, but at least their parents can say, "it's against the law" rather than, "I'm not allowing you". That's what I'm reading some parents are saying. Hate the system, not me! One parent who had already dealt with banning her son and the fallout, is hoping this will make it easier when it comes to her daughter, even if only they hate her less than her son did but are still angry. Just less angry with her.

I don't really have an issue with the SM ban in principle, just in how they are going to implement it, because they won't be able to do it without everyone proving their age, personally I don't use SM much, only Marketplace and Youtube, as long as I can get around it with a VPN or something.

That’s hilarious, and so much of it will be true.

I'm just not sure why ABC lovers would be hating it? Is it a "lefty vs righty" thing? Considering Spud claimed responsibility for the ban, saying on camera that they were the ones who pushed Labor to do this, I would think the Sky news faithful would be just as irate at Jimmy G's youtube vid?

I genuinely can't figure out who's upset and who's not by all this. Seems it's pockets of both sides.

Personally, I have absolutely zero idea how the **** they're going to enforce it, but I ****ing love it. "Influencer" is not a ****ing job.

REALLY hope the mis & disinfo bill gets full approval too. There's WAY too many ****ing idiots out there that can't tell what is a blatant lie for the purposes of propaganda or influence. We all know Governments do some shady shit, but we used to greet everything they did with a healthy dose of scepticism. The full on whack jobs now are WAY too vocal in their stupidity these days, thinking that every single god damn action performed by a government official is a cover-up for something utterly and mind-blowingly ridiculous.

The last stats I saw regarding the SM ban were that it has about 77% support across the country, so pockets of unhappy from both sides is probably on the money! I too can't see how it would be enforced, but it's a start, and as I've said before it gives parents someone else to push the blame too when they ban their kids.
It wouldn't be necessary if SM companies showed a level of social responsibility, but that wouldn't make money.

I can handle the "influencer" title when relevant qualifications come along for the ride.

Assume they’ll just use the same age verification that pornhub does. Are you 18? Yes, off you go son, go stream Andrew Tate or some other mouth breather to your hearts content. I still reckon kicking boomers off Facebook will do a lot more good than kicking kids off TikTok, but it is what it is. Then again, if we let the spicy cough wipe them out when we had the chance, we wouldn’t even need to bother booting them off Facebook now.

Luckily that crap got canned, no thanks to the government controlling what I can see (they are one of the worst offenders), yes there is a lot of crap out there, but I would rather that and still be able to find the real info than the government controlling it, just look at some of the out right lies that our governments have told (and please don’t be lazy and ask for examples, its not hard), just look at some of the utter bullshit the current mob have told, no way I want them, or someone they appoint controlling it.

It would much better to concentrate on making better Privacy Laws, with things like right to be forgotten, for things like stopping personal details being held by companies who no longer need your information (hello Optus et al). Clear options for you to tell companies not to share your information and obtaining this information should not prevent you from receiving goods and services. Plus a whole lot of other changes that make tech companies much more on the hook for preventing illegal activity.
But I fear thats too hard and trying to 'police' this kind of stuff is too difficult and costly.

LOL, if you believe the Government are the worst offenders for mis and disinfo right now, I have a bridge to sell you.

If you're going to make a statement like you have I very much need you to give examples. Not because I don't believe that they are out there, but you seem to be convinced they are the biggest perpetrators of said lies and we need to see where your threshold lies.

We've just seen the perfect example of mis and disinfo sway the uber-stupid gullible public of America elect the most dangerous President in their history because of "frEE spEEch And mUh frEEdUmbs!!!", and the rot is absolutely starting to creep in in this country and Right-Wing Nut Jobs are becoming far too vocal and not enough of a small minority. Cutting off the supply to this absolute bullshit should be step one. A public execution of the members of the One Nation and United Australia Parties should be a very close second, racist ****s.
