    Default 2010 Qld Semi-Final - AndyP v Iain

    AndyP vs Iain

2009 Matchplay Champ vs 2004 OZgolf Champ
    2009 POTY vs 2004 POTY
    Handicaps: 13 (12.5) vs 11 (10.6)
Head to head: 1 - 0 (City v Country ISG Toowoomba Day 2004)

    Path to SF
    Rd 1 - AndyP d Rusty 4/3 (after 3 ties), Iain d PeteyD 2/1
Rd 2 - AndyP d Tex 3/1, Iain walkover against BrisVegas (after 2 ties)
    QF - AndyP d golfer69 2up, Iain d ddasey 4/3

    AndyP last 5 comps played to: 17, 17, 17, 17, 19
    Iain last 5 comps played to: 10, 22, 16, 13, 14

If the other semi is the battle of the heavyweights, is this the battle of the lightweights?

No date or venue set yet. It hasn't even been discussed, but with Iain being a shift worker, and with my retirement just around the corner, this should be easy to organise.

I've got no idea who the favourite would be, but the winner of this match will easily win the final.

I am no sure whether to label it an Andy Avalanche?, or an Iain Implosion? more of the later really, the real Unit was not to be seen today.

    Here's a wrap-up of the round.

1 - From similar greenside positions, I get up and down, Iain doesn't. AndyP 1up.
2 - Iain tops his drive into the creek. AndyP 2up.
3 - I hit the green and two putt, Iain doesn't get up and down from his missed green. AndyP 3up.
4 - I hit the green with my approach, Iain finds the bunker then goes back and forth. AndyP 4up.
5 - I find the bunker, Iain finds the water. AndyP 5up.

The murmurings about the famous banner begin.

6 - I bogey the hole and Iain finally has a simple 2ft putt to square a hole. He misses...by a mile. AndyP 6up.

I asked Iain the name of his Indian bookmaker at this point.

7 - Iain plays the hole in regulation to the green, but 3 putts for a boge. I find trees left, trees right, but get the green in reg, but leave a tester for par. I ruthlessly slam it into the back of the cup. AndyP 7up.
8 - Iain finally has the same score as me on a hole. It's my shot hole. AndyP 8up.
9 - My reckless par is not good enough to beat Iain's sublime tee shot and nice putt for birdie. AndyP 7up.
10 - Neither of us can get up and down from the back of the green. A hole is squared for the first time.

The equation for Iain is now simple; square (or win) the 11th and he avoids equaling the score made famous by golfer69's defeat of jarro. I made sure he knew about it (as if he already didn't).

    11
I tee off first (out of order) and find the fairway on the left hand side; Iain smacks his down the right. Iain can make me hit mine again, but couldn't see the point as I'd probably just end up putting it in a better spot, plus it would have compromised the stableford.

I put my hybrid to 100m out; Iain tops one but leaves himself 120m or so out for his approach, which he hits to just off the right side of the green with a left pin. I put my wedge pin high but on the same side as Iain.

Iain hits a nice putt down the hill which broke left a good amount (which I noted), but leaves himself about only 1m from the hole. I roll my 10m putt down the hill, it loods good but is gathering some steam. It slams into the centre of the cup and drops much to Iain's delight. Talk about a kick in the nuts.

    F9 A A A A A A A A I
    B9 - A
    AndyP 8 and 7

    Anyway, where's my banner?

Others might do something like that, but that's not for me. I'll let my golf do the talking.

Iain was pretty bad, without being to pinpoint a particular part of the game going bad. It was all pretty ordinary. That said, I didn't do much wrong.

Now thats not nice snow monkey.

Bad lucky Iain. 22 points would be a good indicator of how bad a game you had.

AP...now we can talk about why you want to play on your former home course for the final
    Cheers

We don't have to play it at Horton Park, although it is the best option. You do seem a little obsessed with the fact that I had it as a home club once.

Start a thread and pick another venue besides playing it at the OZgolf Champs.

Obsessed? I do think any realistic person would realise they had a distinct advantage playing a match on a course they know well against someone who has never played it. You seem rather obsessed with not playing it at Pelican Waters though!

I am working next weekend so can't play any time before then...sorry.
    Cheers

But he hasn't been a member there in 20 odd years? How is it a home course advantage?
