Default To all the shaft experts....

Not having a great deal of knowledge on all things shafts I need to pose a question to the gurus...

I bought the Titleist D2 9.5 which when I was fitted out for it had the Voodoo S shaft in it..
When I picked it up it had the Diamana Blueboard S Flex in it. Not really caring too much and just wanting my new toy I took it..

The ball flight on this is so low and I feel like i have even lost a bit of distance. from all the reports I have read this shaft has a High Kick point which it seems is no good for my swing.. So the question..

What is a good stiff shaft with a mid - mid/low kick point that would suit a swing speed of approx 110 ?

any feedback would be much appreciated!

    cheers,
    Mint

I hit both shafts when I got my 909 and I found that the diamana launched quite a bit higher than the voodoo. Played quite a bit weaker for me.

    why ?

Given that they are "Made For" shafts, it's probably just the consistency factor in the shaft, ie, luck of the draw.

    Easy to reshaft though

Is there a chance you can get it tested on a frequency machine? If it has been tipped incorrectly you can take it back to the seller to get it corrected. I would take it back anyway on the off chance they can test it.

Hi Mint. Yes you might have a dud there if you didn't have a problem with the voodoo Retun it and get one with voodoo or better still insist on the demo that you hit good as no 2 same clubs perform the same with OTR stuff. Now your questiion about shafts, with your 110 SS, i really doubt you will be looking for a mid/low kickpoint just because of your recent experience so perhaps swap it first. Your SS generally will need a higher kick point with a firmer tip & verging on XS or S with extra tipping unless your doing some serious delofting at impact.. But among the diamana series, redboard/ilima will have the the softer tip for a higher launch. Along the voodoos will be the SVS6/7. One of the shafts that is really good and you can research it a bit is the Oban series and normally I would say Devotion 07 05 (XS) at your SS but if launch is an issue then then the revenge. Many have had side by side testing against newer shafts like DI-6, Attas and got better numbers with the Devo. I'm certainly loving mine coming from SNV6 which is also a very good shaft. Hope that helps..

thanks for all the feedback thus far guys - and thanks Eca for the detailed response.. much appreciated.

Daves my old driver was the FT 9 which had the bog stock Rayon shaft in it.. problem was that it was Reg so i was always finding myself backin the swing speed down to control it..

what do the VS Protos retail for ?

VS proto is a very good shaft and the update is the SVS6/7 is from the VS profile with the S-core (voodoo) technology. The made for titleist red voodoo is the watered down version of this. Found this when I was hunting for a 3w shaft. But for your SS you might be better served with SVS7 (just in case you didnt know S=stiff VS=profile 7-70g class) to improve on timing & dispersion.

    +1 for the AXIVCore range.

Blue or Black would probably suit, even possibly red if you don't like the high lauch of the blue/black. I'm by no means an expert, but just so happened to hit a D3 9.5* with AXIVCore black. It felt really nice on this club. These shafts are also affordable.

I much prefer a high(er) trajectory so I can hit over trees, so you'd have to do some testing to see whether you like it.

Lol Hocko, I know a bit but not in the same league as virge & tourfit. I did an extensive research in driver shaft & now 3w shaft with these 2 helping with the latter.

Three seriously good shafts that would fit your bill...

    1) AxivCore Black 69 S (or 79 S if you like more weight)
    2) Voodoo SVS6 (or SVS7 if you prefer more weight)
    3) Grafalloy ProLaunch Platinum (NOT the newer more expensive Axis version...go the cheaper older model)

beg the ignorance on this question TourFit but what is the advantage of more weight? or that purely a feel thing ?

Having played with you Mint, I don't think a more weighty shaft would cause too many dramas

    Largely feel, yes.

More weight can help slow down a quicker tempo/transition and give more control. It can also help with timing to ensure a better quality strike.

It is not ALWAYS the case, but it can help.

I, for one, prefer the heavier 70g+ shafts these days, as the 65g or less shafts tend to encourage me to hit harder, and I lose ALL sense of control then. (Think I need 200g shaft or something!!!). However, you could go with a light shaft and experiment with a heavier swingweight to see if that will help if needed.
