Titty, I'm going to HA in October, so i'll be heading over for a hit then.

$150 is a fair whack for a game, but what the hell.

    Any recent reviews?

Mu cruise to Vanuatu & New Cal just got cancelled so I'm off to Hamilton tomorrow

100% playing HIGC regardless of price since I barely got a chance to play up in Cairns due to work... apologies to all the FNQ fellas as I didn't even get around to a meet/greet.

It was spectacular, you will rarely if ever gets views like the ones you will get from Dent Island (HIGC). The back nine is absolutely stunning with views looking over to HI and down towards Lindeman.

If you get the chance give it a go.

Fees $100 for 9 and $150 for 18, including cart, ferry and a couple bottles of iced water.

X 22 irons and Diablo woods for $40
    Ft Tour stuff for $70.

It was a little breezey the day I played which I assume would be the norm. On a calm day it would be fantastic, on a gusty day it would be a world of pain.

The stretch of 15 to 18 is great a runs along the body of water b/w Dent Island and HI. The 16th par 3 is particular fun.

The 18th tee is elevated by about 40 - 50 meters and looks out over the water as well as the club and the temptation to smash one of the tee straight at the club house is too great. Most definately out of reach but have a go anyway.

    Ejnoyed it.

Stayed at the Whitsunday Holiday Apartments, IMO just a great place to holiday with kids.

We got a great deal with flights, $850 return for 5 people.

Agree with Chappy. Fantastic course. Views are hard to believe. Also enjoyed the course design, particularly thr par 3s. 4th was my favourite hole... perhaps because I landed it to 10ft in gusty conditions with a gallery $150 seems expensive but I felt like I got a bargain by the time I shook hands on the 18th green. I think it'd be a top spot for champs. Quite affordable too if you book the right flights & stay in self contained apartments. We stayed in very nice apartments for $500/night with 4 bedrooms, balcony overlooking marina, projector cinema room plus all the comforts you would expect of a 4-5 star hotel room. I will post some pics when I get home.

How can $150 for one round be considered "affordable"?

Might be very affordable for someone gainfully employed?

For anyone travelling to Hamilton Island... if you are unable to play the course for whatever reason, you can view the course by guided tour at 2:30pm each day after a nice lunch for $65pp. Another option is to check whether the 'Dent Dash' is on while you are staying. Basically it is held once a month & it is a 6:15am ferry to the island, followed by a walk/run around the island & then a really nice continental brekky including cereal, fresh fruit, coffee & pastries. If you are going to walk or run it is worth taking a change of clothes!! Finally, if you are travellin with a partner I'd suggest a morning round of golf followed by lunch - this way you can take her/him around as a caddy (views are incredible, postcard photo opps all the way around) and then relax over lunch. Non-playing partners will not be disappointed... The views from the course surpass those from any lookout on Hammo or most surrounding islands.... except maybe the lookout overlooking the end of Whitehaven Beach.

Hopefully this works. Greens had just been cored so ignore the condition of the greens. Fairways were superb. The views were hard to believe. Service and amenities were exceptional... particularly enjoyed the leather wrap steering wheels in the carts The restaurant was not quite up to scratch when we visited the club for lunch but once again the views make up for any minor faults.

Also, the number of balls you will need almost depends entirely on wind conditions. I played in fairly moderate winds & didn't lose many balls... plus I kept finding one hit pro Vs everywhere There are certainly some bail out landing areas on most holes for those looking to save balls. I think I lost a few balls by the end of the round but I'm a dead set chopper off high teens HC and I was attacking pins and pulling out driver on a few holes from the back markers etc. I can't see how people go around losing almost a ball per hole. I played with a social golfer who would be off 36 and he didn't even go through that many.

Basically I am trying to say that it is a fun course, not a scary one.

    Just got back from Hamilton.
Played the course last Friday in glorious QLD sunshine.
One of the most spectacular courses i have ever played, well worth the $150 and 5 hrs away from the wife and kids!
I played from the plates, shot 86 playing fair dinkum, no gimmes.
Was 3 over the front, but lost it in the middle where there are a series of holes that have blind shots from the tees, and par 5's from the landing zones.
Playing partners chickened out and played from the middle tees.
It was fairly breezy as the course is fairly high up and alot of holes are exposed.
I would have broken 80 if i'd had course notes, it was not available on Sonnocaddie yet so that was a bummer
To make it worse i frogot to put my gap and sand wedges in when i transferred my clubs from my sat bag to my stand bag so bunker shots where a problem!
There are a couple of holes that could have been designed better with more bail out areas etc... but i suppose land/terrain there is a problem
I really enjoyed it, it is a must if you ever go there.
I took pics from every tee, will post later.

Funny that u forgot your wedges because I just randomly forgot to pack my 8 iron when I visited! I agree that a course guide would be worth about 5 shots to first timers... one approach I thought I hit it at the pin but I missed the green altogether... serves me right for not bothering to drive over the hill to take a quick look.
