Default Iain vs Vegas (round 2)

Seeing as everyone else is starting threads to thrash out their availability, here's ours.

For me, Saturdays I usually play at my home track. But I can swap a home game for a hit somewhere else with a bit of notice. The last Sat of every month is monthly medal and that's locked in for me where possible.

I'm out Good Friday through til April 10th when I get back from Easter camping holidays.

17/18 April weekend might be worth pencilling in.

The weekend after that is Leon's game at City GC and I'm going to be staying up there afterwards with the family. The weekend after that is monthly medal.

As for venues, we're both south/west side of town, so no need to venture too far away. Carbrook, Oxley, Gailes, Windaroo, Pacific etc etc..

    What's your schedule like Iain?

    Just noticed this thread.

Working the 17/18th of April. And then every 3rd weekend after that. Start a couple of weeks holiday's on the 17th May, but that might be getting to close to the cutoff.

You playing the Ozgolf Master's weekend at Cooly-Tweed? Could do it then?

All square after 18 holes today. Thanks for the game Iain and I look forward to playing you again soon.

It was close all day and was never more than 1 up either way. I made a bunch of pars but couldnt get a birdie whereas Iain seemed to either go great or go bush... we only halved 3 holes I think. He hit some beautiful iron shots and won nearly all the par 3's. Iain chipped in on 16 and stiffed it on the par 3 17th to be 1 up on the last tee. Iain hit it left off the tee and had to chip out sideways. I was on the fairway but 240 out and chose to layup to 100 out. Iain hit it left again with his 3rd to be inside 100 but in the rough. I hit a nice little 9 iron to about 10 feet and then Iain hit a wedge to about 15 feet. He putted first and missed it long so I had 2 putts for the win. I curled in the birdie putt to win the hole and square it up.

Its two clubs up that hill isnt it! I just cant bring myself to hit more than one club, even though I come up short every time.

There's no way i wanted to be short. I was 105m out and it's uphill and slightly into the wind. 9 iron for me is about 125m, so figured a smooth one would get there and stop without spinning back off the front.

in hindsight, both Iain and I had our chances to win this. He 3-jagged the 15th and I 3-jagged the 17th for starters.. ahh well, let's hope we both play well in the next match too.

It was a good match to watch. Iain played some awesome shots to win holes (including a massive putt and a chip in over a bunker), and BV constantly applied pressure by sticking his long putts close (although he would have preferred not to have long putts in the first place).

I'm assuming this match hasn't been replayed? Just updating the draw.

we're playing this coming Saturday 5th June. I posted that in the QLD Matchplay thread.

It was the first chance we both had to get it played due to various weekend commitments by both of us.

2 extra, so 6 in total. that's more than enough. I'm hot off 25 points last week at Brooky and 27 points yesty at Pacific. Jarro's banner could be under threat.

You love that underdog tag. Good luck getting it for this match though.

Leave the wedges at home, Dion.

Oh, and are there any spots to watch the matchplay?

$55 guest rate, incl. cart. $10 comp fee if you choose to partake...

I booked you in. The other guy playing (oxy) hasn't gotten back to me, so there might be one more spot still...

Lock it in. It'll please the boss playing a morning game this weekend, so it's win-win.

Dion, I'm going to have to pull out of this. I took a full sprinting running dive during touch last night and subsequently destroyed my right shoulder.

There goes my professional golf career.

    Was the dive worth it?

  25. #25

At the time (and not yet knowing the consequences), yes. It was only about 15 minutes into the game and it was still 0-0. We were on their line and their quickest guy made an intercept off the other wing on the other side of the field from me. It was a nice feeling to chase the guy down from the complete other side of a field with him having a 10m start, but no so much of a nice feeling when I plowed into the turf. For the record, it was a complete 'superman' horizontal dive, just touching him on the shoe a metre or two before the line.

I was more worried about my head at first as that took a bit of a knock, but within a few minutes it was pretty clear that my shoulder was a mess. We ended up winning 6-4 or something, so in the end probably not worth it. We've now played four games this season and I've somewhat seriously injured myself in two out of those four.
