Thanks for putting these up on the site Talart. Looks a great course, and some good company! What more can one want in life.

Pretty good deal if you live near Thaxted Park
Will spotted Chris32.... Wish I lived near Thaxted Park then.... what a great deal. Played it years ago (in a previous golf life) and it was a good course then, sure it's still good now... Oh well, Mannum GC will do!
super fast greens from memory

Interesting news about The Dunes development on the news. In receivership. What a blow. Hope the course survives. Shed any light Daggs?
Here's some light. It's in the arse end of nowhere & as a result isn't making a cent. Not rocket surgery really.

Sadly this project was in full swing when the GFC happened, and all the oldies looking to retire in a new place around the golf course suddenly had no money to invest.
Same with the developer, from what I know he earned his cash through European investment............... and they have been going along great guns
What will need to happen is when the exploration industry kicks off (I say exploration, as SA has 7 mines as apposed to WA with almost 700) and turns into a mining state, they need to build a nice regional airport in the area and enjoy the millions of dollars that will be generated with the associated with many thousands of cashed up workers.
Until then, its just going to have to try and plod along, much like Lady Bay. At least there is 18 holes there!
Wonderful bit of insight Tim . Whats not making a cent?
Its actually the housing development thats letting him down.
Of which he has four within the council area .
The receivers have stated it wont take alot to get out off (that remains to be seen).
As with all developments the land taxes kill you quickly (second biggest problem he's got)over a million a year.
Im sure there are plenty of developments in the cities which we at the arse end of nowhere, call the "shit houses of the world" are in the same boat.
Biggest problem massive losses o/s in gfc .
Anyhow time will tell
Oh and i believe thats rocket science mate!

Love the discussion about all the country courses. It's so good to play on a course and have so few others on the course. Really relaxing. I played Mt Pleasant on Tuesday. Great course, although the greens are looking a bit sad. Played okay for a scrubber - almost broke 100.... One of these days.... Good value too at Mt Pleasant. $20 for the round. And not too far from Adelaide.
Oh well, back to Mannum GC and no doubt I'll be nowhere near 100.... For some reason I can't get anywhere near breaking the 100 there. It doesn't look harder though. I'd better get a lesson I think!
Mt Pleasant is a suprise packet, better than a lot of tracks closer to town (Adelaide)
How's Mannum these days?
Not a bad 9 holer from memory.
Pleasant is a fun course. Played there quite a few times and at 69 with some easier holes you can get some very good scores there. I don't think it is overly challenging but some parts are quite tricky. Second hole distance is wrong imo. Third hole is fantastic for those who want to give it a crack and try and clear the water at probably 180-190 carry. Rewards you if you do. Fairway lies are good, second cut can be dodgy with bare patches. Long hitters are really rewarded on a couple of holes.
What a found a tad disappointing is the inability to make contact with the club. They have two days a week where the clubhouse is contactable. You can email but it may be days before a response. They have a $50 membership which gets you your GL card, and that is fantastic. I emailed them to enquire about this for a mate who wanted to play casually at the time, and I got one email with the application form. I emailed back with some further questions and no reply. I emailed twice more and no reply. This was quite disappointing and does the club no favours at all when they need members considering their location and also the overall need for members of courses in SA in general.
There was no reply so my mate joined up with Mount Compass. They lost a member and others who may have been encouraged also. They only have themselves to blame.
Anyways, fun for a country course and definitely worth a hit.
Hey Deano, I couldn't comment about Mt Pleasant being better than other courses in Adelaide's metro area, because I haven't played any! I think though for $20 (during weekdays) it's good value.
Mannum is looking good. Greens currently much better than Mt Pleasant, but I find Mannum difficult. Four holes have doglegs to the left, so they're challenging for a slicer like me. But definitely worth the drive to Mannum. If the weather is foul in Adelaide, often it can be fine at Mannum.
And Chilled is probably right. Mt Pleasant apparently don't return emails promptly (I have heard of that before). I guess it's a course that is run by volunteers (with one paid greenkeeper). Nevertheless, if a club wants to remain vibrant (and viable), they'd better respond to all enquiries and give complete information. Mind you, their website is much better than Mannum's! I think you're right to Chilled, I hit a good score (for me), so it isn't as challenging as some courses around these parts. For me, the water is a new challenge - but wasn't a problem on the day. No bunkers there is not good - can't practice getting out of them!

upcoming fun ozgolf day
If your on the Northern side of Adelaide and looking for very affordable membership on a good course try Kapunda. It's only a 30-40min drive from Munno Parra shopping centre. $325 a year, season runs from April to end of March. It's only a nine hole course but there's enough variety with the different tees changing the par on 3 of the holes.
Greens fees are only $20 for the day.
I looked every where when I was thinking of getting back into the game at a competition level for some where I could join that fit within my very small budget. Even the public courses in Adelaide were around the $600 and upwards. Hard to get value for money when I'll only be playing fort nightly.
Kapunda is better than the cheaper courses in Adelaide and only takes 35min from home to get there. Exceptional value if you ask me.

I know this was last year.
I'm surprised with what you've written about Balaklava. Good to see they've fixed the greens and lowered their green fees. The reason I say this is I was a member there for about 8 years up until 6 years ago when I give the game away. Went back late 2010 for a hit with a mate who was also a long time member (approx 20years) who stopped playing at the same time. We were saddened by the condition of the course, half the greens had huge bare/dead patches in them making only 50% of the green playable and they were asking either $25 or $30 green fees to play on such rubbish. I know all to well about the extent of the water troubles the club was having but charging that price to play in that state ensured you wouldn't be back. We were really disappointed and had no intention of paying for a round there again so found some where else to have the odd social hit.
Like I said I'm glad it's bounced back. I have a lot of fond memories playing there and have my name on the honour board a few times too.
I've only played Keith once back in the early 2000's in a Pro-am. I remember the greens that day were excellent. I can't remember much else about the course apart form knowing I did enjoy it. I happened to play with the winning Pro on the day who shot 6 under. Was great watching some one play that well up close.
Hi guys, thought i'd introduce myself in here as well.
Was a junior member at Mt Barker and have played most of the courses in the hills, fleurieu and on the plains
Was also briefly a member at Mt Osmond along the way.
I'm now living in town (as opposed to the hills) and looking at joining somewhere with a shortlist of Blackwood, Riverside or maybe the Vines.
Anyone got any suggestions?
If you join The Vines, Blackwood, Flagstaff Hill, Mount Osmond, Tee Tree Gully or West Lakes, using the 'Club Advantage Card' that comes with the membership you get to play each of the other courses 3 times during the year! (BTW: I am at The Vines)
Join Blackwood Dave. They have a special going for Dylan Sanders fanclub members.
I thought that was you, Timbo. It struck me tonight where i'd seen the badge before and it all fell in to place haha.
