Does anyone live Andrews Farm area? Just moved house from Marion....HUGE MOVE!

I'm tossing up between playing/practicing on either North Lakes or Penfield.
Which one is better? Quality? Price? etc?

Based on a round there the other day, if I lived there, I'd be happy playing at Gawler

Having said that I haven't played many courses in SA to give a comparison.

Where were you playing before when down south?
    Comp or just social?
    Weekend or week day?

Condition wise Penfield over North Lakes. North Lakes has 1/2 green fees on Mondays if looking to save dollars and just want at hit.

For quality it's Gawler or even Kapunda. Only a 30min drive to Kapunda Golf Course from the Farm.

I often play Penfield after work on Fridays and its much better than NLs. Really nice fast greens and a reasonably good layout.

Penfield isn't too bad actually. Members are great and very welcoming. Tees seperated enough on some of the tee blocks to make a difference when you go around the second time. I enjoyed my games there, and I'll definitely be back some time.

North Lakes would be less than 5 mins drive yeah? Never been there s can't compare.

The range at Penfield is ok for irons but it would be 180m maximum. The practice green is pretty tidy however.

There is a good driving range tucked away just down the road from Penfield at the par 3 course at Salisbury if your looking for a place to practice everything

Always played just socially, occasional weekend or every second thursday.
If I wanted a cheap round, I'd play Marion Park. If I wanted a slightly better course (less hilly) I'd play West Beach Pat.

Yeah, I've been to that par 3 at Salisbury but never hit any balls on that range, is it good? How long is it? How many targets are there?
North Lakes would be only a 5 min drive, but I'd be happy to drive a bit further for a better course.
    Maybe Gawler?

The range is really good, its not overly long - maybe 220m, so they use soft range balls to limit the balls going over the back fence. The yardages are well marked, and there is a big power pole at the end of the range that is fun to hit driver at.

The mats are always in good shape, and they have two turf area's on either side which you can use weather permitting.

Gawler is the pick of the courses if you live at Andrews Farm and don't mind a drive, the other one that is pretty good is the Barossa Valley Golf Club just past Nuri. I quite like that course

Looking at the weather, probably the best day for golf this week, but take your waterproofs!

Pretty sure it's $15. If I had too choose between those 2 courses, Penfield no contest

Haven't played it before so might give it a hit Saturday week in the comp.Penfield Iv'e played in a sat comp before, track is surprisingly good. Tee block variations are not too bad.

Hey guys, just a quick review of North Lakes.

It's actually in quite good condition at the moment due to excessive rain, some parts of the course are water logged but never where your ball should go. It's a relatively easy layout where driver is not needed on any hole except the 7th (Par 4 - ~400m) which plays into wind. I hit driver and still had 3w in.

The tee boxes are relatively easy and set up for people that slice they ball. For someone that draws the ball and can't cut/fade anything to save my life, you'll have a tough time around this track.
The fairways are average, it seems the ground keepers have focused more around the greens and forgotten to keep the fairways in good nick. A couple of times I smashed good drives to be left with a crappy lie (one thing I hate about public courses)
I didn't actually go in the bunkers, so I can't report back on this. They seem relatively well maintained except for some water puddles in various deep bunkers.
The greens are actually very good for a little 9 hole course. They were a bit slow but that's from water still on them. I would come back, but with SA forecast for heavy rains, this course and every other course in SA is going to be bogged down.

Overall, I enjoyed myself (somewhat) would have been better if I played better but that's what you get for not playing consistently. If you are looking for a quick practice round, this is the course to play. Relatively cheap as well, being $14 for 9 holes (I played a couple balls because the course was dead at 9.30 in the morning on a week day). Monday all day 9 or 18 holes is $10, also Thursdays after 12pm is $10.
