Bunkers and water - boo! From what I've read it sounds like it ought to be worth the drive at least.

Some great driving holes and some pretty tricky fast greens. Hole 2 is probably the hardest par 3 holes I've played although this time of year will slow the green. Water will definitely come into play and there's potentially a lot of trouble for missing fairways but overall it's a great challenge and I think you'll like it.
Yeah the one in Sandy Creek. I was just reading about the 2nd. 170m uphill. I might have to get my driver out, or lay up...

Most people I know who have played it love it. If the water hazards don't play with your head they won't come into play unless your quite errant from the tee. Years ago hole 2 had a green that sloped from back to front, if you hit it past the pin you were dead, now they've flattened it making it a 2 tier green. With no head wind, 4 iron or with some breeze I choke down and hit an easy 5 wood. If you use some clever course management you save yourself a heap of shots.

You mean like standing over shots thinking "don't think about the water/bunker"? That's like turning the magnets on!

I did see that thread - but only after I joined.

I'm trying to play as many courses as I can so I can choose one to join, get a golflink handicap and start joining in some OzGolf comps

If Gawler is good, its another tick for Fleurieu (which is closer for me, but a reciprocal for Fleurieu, amongst others...)

Last time I played there was an ozgolf day, course was very good. In fact it was a good day.
I think it's the sort of course which needs a lot of local knowledge , the more you play it the better you get.
From memory I was in the trees all day and struggled .

It was a good day weather and company, greens were very fast that day , course was in good nick ! Its a great setting for sure.
We did notice that no locals hung around for a beer afterwards though.

And you weren't in the trees as often as i was LOL

I'd love to get down there again but got no hope untill about Oct or Nov now.
Kunkie and i were going to go down a while back , (Oz golf day) but he got caught up in that big fire up Pirie way it got to within a k of his place
and i was on stand by with CFS in-case we had to go up there.

I'm happy to help someone do it. Not sure I'm wise enough in the ways of OzGolf to do it myself..

Hmmmmm, reckon an SA Ozgolf Champs could be a goer!?

An entry fee/prize pool and played to Stableford would be the way to go ............................... so get those handicaps sorted guys!

What format though? Having had a squiz at the interstate Champs it would appear they play them over a couple of rounds, keeps you in with a shot if you've had a crap day during the 1st round. Would you want to play the two rounds over a couple of weekends OR play it over two consecutive days - for example could play a Saturday round at Mcracken, then Sunday at Victor/Goolwa/Mt Compass etc, (people could then make a weekend of it and book accommodation nearby)

Give me some feedback via this thread then once I have something to go on I will start a dedicated Ozgolf SA Champs thread

PS:- Would probably be looking at Sept/Oct onwards ...................... !?

I guess it depends if we want to attract people from outside SA to come and stay in which case you'd want it to be 2 over a single weekend?

Personally either works for me. Even a single round champs works as a start - depends on interest and how high we want to aim I guess!

Going on previous turnouts it might pay to aim low.

Organising 2 round is a bit ambitious Neil?
Or will it be the 2014/2016 SA champs?
