Just to give a little more international point of view. 75-80% seems to be the standard for both North America and Europe, as well as both clubs I've been a member at in Australia.

For what it's worth, the reason most clubs use a altered Hcp is to take in account the fact that you don't finish every hole in match play. IN stroke, the high marker can take an 11 compared to the 4 taken by the scratch and balance the handicaps. In match play, a hole like that is over, and the high marker only loses one hole, rather then several strokes as they would in stroke. Balancing the Hcps allows both players to start on a level field, which is the excuse high markers use for using Hcps in the first place.

The ruling was that we would follow the committee's decision - full handicaps at time of match - that way both Qld & NSW are on the same system.

OK, if anyone knows someone who wants in, get them in before 6pm tonight. After that we are CLOSED and the draw gets done. Also, I think it is a good idea if we have a play-by date to limit how long this takes. Does 4 weeks sound like enough for each match?

Does the draw get done straight away?

My reading of the rules (which might be wrong) was that nominations closed today (the 20th), but the draw wasn't being published until the 31st.

This is significant, as some of us are playing official events over Easter. If the money counts, it may change some of the seedings. If so, I can see one or two of the Carnarvon players calculating their possibilities and determining whether a win means a more desirable or less desirable 1st round opponent.

Personally, I don't care who I play. My game is a bit dodgy at the moment, so my expectations are low. I might just be looking to extend the game past the 10th hole. But I'll still enjoy it

I would like Pete to come onboard so we can have our first matchplay match at Carnarvon on Easter Monday.
"Jono vs Pete" (Speirsy & I would love to watch). I want to see which one of the two will choke under pressure .

Burger, can you confirm with BigAL asap? Tell me a little bit about this chap, what is his hcp and at which golf course?

Ok, entries are closed. The bracket that Trung was so nice to draw up is official. Well done Trungy, looks great......The only exception is Jono's bye. If Pete wants in, and Jono is ok with it, then he can have his official entry. Again, it is 100% Jono's call if he chooses to allow the entry as he is the one with a bye or not.

So, how long do we need to get these 1st round matches done? Can everyone get it done by April 23rd? If it can't get done by then, the winner will be decided by coin toss. I know that sucks, but it's the only way to get it done.

Good luck in round 1 everyone, except you Grunt

Open memo to all my potential opponents,

I will not accept a match "be decided" by a coin toss .

Spiersy. the AGU guidelines for Matchplay competitions is "full difference of stroke handicaps", and thats what we are following as well as the guidelines for the matchplay index and the draw.

to do it any other way would cause a discussion.

Hey, you get to play the long drive guy ... Quick tip. Find the shortest course in Sydney ... in fact, see if you can get Stephen to agree to playing on a pitch'n'putt course ...

Shame that TS and Speirsy aren't playing each other. It might have looked something like this:

That's all i need to do Jono - find a course when he can drive every green, or use wedge at worst

I think i'll have to resort to sledging, scratching, kicking, or if all of that fails - compliments.
