Bizarre match won thru heart and experience as much as anything. Anisimova could barely hit a ball over the net for five game and when she did Barty could barely miss. You knew the youngster was going to pick up at some point (she played brillaint against Halep) and Barty was going to cool a little but one would think she had the first set under wraps and the second would be more of a dogfight. Then at 3-0 in the second you wondered if the youngster was going to stay in the zone for the rest of the match but alas it was her time to cool a bit and Barty tightened up her game to make for another somewhat strange set of tennis. The last was a bit more conventional excepting the 5 or so match points saved in a very short period.

Another young gun tonight with Barty a mild fave and anything could happen again. Could we be in for another roller-coaster? Barty's really come on and she's got the game to be a consistent threat at Wimbledon in coming years. I'll be cheering her on over a few Czech Pilsners if the Paris weather permits.

Problem with Barty when she gets too far ahead, the mind starts to wander. She had a 2 point advantage in the tie break and I thought (considering the effort of the comeback) if she wins this set from here Anisimova will crumble. Completely choked on two points one was all over the rally and then decided to play a weak drop shot that only just made the net.

She can't afford to do that tonight, needs to stay away from the Stosur kool-aid

Only a fool would back an Australian player against a Czech in the final of a slam.

I see that and it's exactly what i am about to be drinking. Unique taste and probably the most highly regarded Pils in the world.

Yeah to be fair she is new at this level. It's actually immensely impressive she could come back not only after that first set shock but giving the three game headstart in the second as well. To turn that around was huge.

She needs to be zoned in tonight for sure. She's had a great tourney regardless tho.

Parisian weather is worse than Melbourne. Why isn’t there a roof on any stadium at Roland Garros?

So much to be proud of. As brilliantly as she played she was even more impressive after winning. So humble, dignified and respectful and such a true blue Aussie. She'll be in the thick of it for a long time now. She showed her mental strength tonight and she's got a lot of game. Her variety and completeness puts her in decent stead against the big banging baseliners. Her second serve is superb, her forehand both solid and penetrating and she has the best slice backhand in tennis. Excellent at the net too and has a good set of wheels. Vondrousova was very composed in defeat and unfortunately for her Ash just never let her get on the front foot.

Just caught the highlights and I could be mistaken, but i think the first word she said after winning was "faaaark". Hilarious.

No words to describe how special her and this win is. So much humility, just goes about it with no fuss. Hopefully the first of a few.

Nick and Bernie need to watch this, many many times.

The only time she looked nervous or overawed was at the trophy presentation

Chappy, it's disappointing that you can't post about Barty's success in your recent posts without mentioning the men. This seems common unfortunately.

So while waiting due to the late start she passes time by playing a little cricket with her team. After all the presentations were over she spends the rest of the arve with her team at the players restaurant drinking Kronenbourg 1664, the number 1 selling French beer.

Not the worst little golf swing either -

I'm not disputing his opinion, or his right to it. It just doesn't need to be mentioned, whenever talking about Barty's success.
