Unfortunately he couldn’t hold on, but that was some fight he was showing in the fifth set.

I got up early for the Federer - Kyrgios match, but it was a bit of a fizzer. The GOAT was just too good, and if you haven’t seen that shot of his around the net and Kyrgios’s reaction, look it up.

Serioosly that is a pretty straight forward shot on a pro court as the net is not as wide. I remember watching my brother's match against Ramesh Krishnan and on a break point he ripped a backhand around the net post but collected the ball boy in the head.

Did he sign a ball and give it to the kid or don’t they do those pleasantries in Tennis? Or did he say get up kid your mellon just cost me that point.

Go Queenslander! Great win for a salt of the earth hard working Aussie bloke.

Worst I have ever seen Federer serve and play though.

I didn’t see the fifth set, but Theim has plenty of chances in the sets that he lost too.

It's a shame she couldn't overly enjoy the first grand slam title ever for Japan. It ended up all about Serena and the controversy.

Serena playing the sexism card was a bit of a disgrace.
Her coach later admitting he was 100% coaching and thereby breaking the rules, but arguing that was fine 'because everyone does it" is a bit of a disgrace.
Everyone now claiming that Serena was robbed of her title by the chair umpire is a complete disgrace.

Despite Serena's swathe of supporters being outraged and supporting her actions, I think once the mist of the day disappears, history will not look too fondly upon the way she acted.

Osaka is essentially American, since she has lived there since 3, but I’m sure Japan are happy to claim her.

Just when Serena’s image had improved, this happens.

She’s got form, DQd from the semi at same event in 2009 for threatening a line umpire.

Smoking her racquet like she did was pretty cool but not the holy grail which is the legendary 5 piece break in one smash.

When doing a two hit smash you need to spin the racket after the first hit for maximum carnage. To have a 3 segment result after two hits is pretty poor tossing form.

Osaka is straight-up adorable, and answers a question here as to why she felt the need to apologise for winning the match. It's terribly endearing.

The question starts at 8:22 in case the link/embedding doesn't go directly there:
