Hewitt has never been my favorite person but was he filling in for Demon ?

How good was the Federer Millman match ?

Of course the article has very little to do with the keyboard warriors the headline referred to.

He's one of the most liked players anywhere , not to many were cheering for Nick a year ago either but the bandwagon is overflowing now

So the Twitheads expected the crowd to act like a US Open crowd and hurl abuse at Roger during the whole match.

Millman wasn't representing Australia; he was representing himself, like most tennis tournaments.

I would have been cheering for Fed too. The goat vs a journeyman. No contest.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

Could it be a coming of age win. He's matured quite a bit of late and never could have got thru a match like this not that long ago. Even his previous match put him in dangerous territory but he pulled thru. He's showed real grit and determination. Sure he plays some strange flashy shots at dangerous points in a match but he pulls them off more often than anyone has a right to. I've never seen that pretend to play a drop shot but then shovel it into the corner with a bit of pace thing in my life. He showed proper grit and determination and Nadal certainly won't be looking past him. Hopefully he pulls up ok.

If they put that shot in a tennis video game you have to say.

As if anyone would attempt that shot in a pro match.

Pat Cash introduced the slice backhand approach fake come dropshot but only did it a few times.

The proliferation of grunting put me off watching much tennis quite a while ago.
Happen to be home last night when Nick the flog was playing. Was a little surprised to hear when going into that 5th set it was already the longest match he had played. I guess he got into a habit of tanking out rather than grinding it out.
Hope last night was the first signs of him growing up.

It's insane and comes completely naturally. It's impossible to read. They think they've achieved something reading the drop shot then a last millisecond flick and it's gone. He also plays a lot of great drop shots vs very few of this shot so they've always got to be alert and try to move early for the feather over the net.

I reckon he's (probably obviously) converted some of his more gimmicky type practice shots to tourney play.

He's got a very unique game. Brilliant touch but also loads of power and that serve on song gives him a leg up against the vast majority. Hopefully he can back up mentally and physically for Nadal. At worst he's had a very good tourney and achieved things he's never done before.

The crowd staying around to watch the 5th set on the big screen was massive.

Has Nadal had a time violation yet? Nick has had two so far and one for not giving a blood stained towel to the ballgirl
Cant wait to hear the crowd if he gets one before Nadal
I usually turn of as soon as Rafa comes on I cannot stand watching him , but going to have to watch this one

Fantastic win by Barty. she looked to get a bit chokey in that second set and for a brief moment in the 3rd but came back like a champ. She did it mostly without a first serve which disappeared for the majority of the match i think after the first set. It was windy which made it difficult.

It didn't look like she was going to win that third set, but then an opportunity popped up, and Riske handed it to her with a double fault. It could easily have gone the other way, if Riske had won the point and it went to deuce.

Not a split hair in it. Holding at the start of the third set was everything i think.

Regardless of rankings no-one stands out or above at this particular time in women's tennis. There's at least two handfuls that can beat each other on any given day and some others outside that can have a day out as well. Plenty of seeds have been pumped.

A loss last night would not have been a fail in the big scheme of things. It's a bloody good win.
