No, it's to discourage further anti-vax sentiment in Australia, and MABO and the vibe.

    GO KOKK!

Maybe Andy could move all the Novak covid posts from the tennis thread to hear? I think I was the one that started them, but I think some would like that thread not to be full with the Novak covid talk??

    Anyway, to continue with Novak...........
A week ago the French sports minister said he'd be welcome to play the French Open under an exemption which can be made for special events like that. Well, new laws have just passed in France, and now the minister has said that unvaccinated players will not be able to compete at the French Open, no exceptions. Still plenty of time for that to change, with the event not until May and an Election in France in April.
Doesn't stop what happened here looking like a complete cluster f. I think we got the right result but it feels like for the wrong reason........ I guess. I can't see how TA won't take a beating over this and how the head survives. This should have been really simple and he shouldn't have even left Europe.

Easy win for Barty last night, but it was disappointing although not surprising to see Kokk get knocked out. The change in pace of court may have thrown him off, but what are the chances that there was a little bit of partying after winning his first title?

Anyone catch the Kyrios sideshow last night.

I have to admit I watched a lot of it and feel poorer for the experience.

He has Tomic covered, but only just.

The crowd were a complete embarassment

It was a great match and very enjoyable. I agree on the crowd. This year is the worst I've heard.

I don't know what has happened; but the crowds are just mental now. Clapping after missing first serves, just shite. Medvedev had every right to call it out.

Starting to lose my love of tennis, the game has been on the downward spiral for quite some time.

Is it becoming more about the side show antics and carry on over the actual game?

I miss the days of Sampras, Agassi (Ferrins best mate), Safin, Federer and Rafa @ Wimbledon. Then you had the Aussies: Rafter, Hewitt, Scud. Davis Cup was awesome as we were always a chance to win.

Now we are lost in a spiral; almost drawing parallel (music industry tangent) to a generation of mumble rappers who can't even sing (use auto-tune, even live). Getting back to tennis it's 'I draw a crowd and put on a show' rather than 'I work my arse off to be world No.1'.

Kyrgios is the most talented Australian player I have ever seen but he is a round 3 crash out / one trick pony. Never will he hold a trophy in any major tournament. He plays with ADHD; anything longer than 10 hits and then it's a goofy tweener or a stupid drop shot.

I just don't get engaged in it anymore, its exciting for 10 mins then I tune out

Give me Kyrgios and his antics every single time. Tennis is boring as **** and we only care about it 2 weeks a year. It desperately needs someone to liven it up and the more the sporting public can get of people like Nick the better.

The most interesting thing about this years Aus Open is the Joker visa debacle. I’d rather staple my dick to my nutsack than watch Medvedev play, unless he was playing against Nick. He has the personality of expired yoghurt.

I agree the crowd have lost their minds though and that the siuuu chant is bafflingly stupid.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

Nothing wrong with auto-tune. It's just another musical instrument.

Serious question - I don't remember Sampras & Agassi dominating like Federer/Nadal/Dkjokovic, are those latter three just that much better, or is the depth not there anymore?

Played and followed tennis all my life. The depth isn't there any more. Also the style of tennis has changed. Grinders have taken over the game. Federer was the last true classic tennis players.

It's hard not to get your hopes up with the way Ash is playing at the moment. She is kicking arse. Two more to go.

These guys have been too good and are the best ever. To say the depth existed before is not genuine, when Hewitt made number one as a "grinder".
