Jeeze these Facebook people don't like it when you say the rule should be changed! Even if you state that you believed what's-her-face was well within her rights! Tennis must be hard compared to other sports, and have to protect these players from injuring themselves by going too hard to early, not pacing themselves, and not knowing when to stop for their own safety (yes, a point that was made to me).

Are you suggesting that if a player gets injured then they shouldn't be able to get a timeout or be treated, just as a player in a lot of team sports could be, if they were temporarily substituted?

Possibly. You see what happened today enough to suggest that it gets abused.

Eahy I got the team sport argument thrown at me. But team sports have substitution rules, regardless of injury, and generally a limit on how many. And each team gets the same. What happens when all substitutes are invited and another plus after goes down? Do they stop the game until they can find an extra player? If you get a crank in a marathon do you call for a time out and everyone in the field has to stop?

Yes, it is being abused, and used as a strategy, but that is only some of the time.

Marathon is not comparable at all, since it is a sport with time being the result.

In a team sport, you are one of many, so you could still get away with players with injuries still having to take part. In tennis, that one person is it. Without them there is no match.

I don't think a player should be making the decision on whether they should and how they can continue after sustaining an injury. Leave that to a medical expert.

My view would be that Barty's opponent took the piss with that medical timeout.

For mine, the fact that Barty wasn't able to maintain her focus and continue on giving her the pasting she gave her in the first set is more disappointing

I thought the medico's had to approve the timeout? It's been abused for donkey's years now, and can't see that changing any time soon. Can't fault the player from taking advantage of it. Just my thoughts are - feeling dizzy and can't concentrate - get fitter.....

    Exactly.
JMHO - Feeling dizzy is not an injury so no injury time should be granted. Play on or forfeit and go work harder to be better.

Usain Bolt could run a marathon in 1 hour 10 mins.

He would just need 420 time outs.

You started by debating the medical timeout for any injury, goighy, but now just dizzy spells?

He may be better. After all, the number of players in his tournament doubled this year. Nadal didn’t have to deal with that.
Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become a Masters champion..... It looks like a mirac.. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

I get her point, but she went about it the wrong way. I guess that is today's generation, where all statements are made via social media.
