2010 Vic Ozgolf Matchplay
2010 Vic Ozgolf Matchplay
Detail
Annual Ozgolf Matchplay event for the Mexicans.
After closing date for interest, Bruce and myself will draw 1st round matches out of the hat. Matches will then be posted here. Round 1 will have a cut off date of (more than likely 31st of March).
Round 2 will consist of all round 1 match winners (if odd number of entries some players may get auto entry to second round i.e. last years winner jd_frank [Dave]) Round 2 will have a cut off date of (more than likely 30th of June).
Round 3 will consist of all round 2 match winners (if odd number of entries lucky losers get auto entry to third round) Round 3 will have a cut off date of (more than likely 30th of September).
All subsequent rounds will be determined after final numbers have been confirmed.
Format is handicapped matchplay i.e. one player has a handicap of 18 and the opponent has a handicap of 15 then the 18 h'caper will get a shot on the 3 hardest holes.
It is advisable to organise golf days in an attempt to get multiple matches completed on the one day, also those new Ozgolf members can get to know other Victorian golfers, (all Interstate Ozgolfers are most welcome to play in these days if they are in town)
It is the reponsibility of both players of a match to coordinate the playing of said match.
Those players that do not have an official handicap are welcome to play, a handicap must be nominated by them prior to teh match in line with their ability. If a hustler is found within the ranks, I reserve the right to do something REALLY REALLY REALLY humiliating to them
Anything not clear let me know.
Matches (as drawn by match committee Bruce and Chappy over coffee)
Round 1
1. V205 vs F00re (v205 out)
2. Wools vs JohnLLL (Winner - Wools, 6 & 5)

Cutoffs
All first round matches must be completed before Monday the 5th of April. Both players of matches not completed by this date will be eliminated, no correspendence will be entered into.

1. Kev vs F00re (Winner F00re - we moved this match to round 2)

Jim,
You don't want to play with the lurker? The dress code drops too much and the conversation for 4.5 hrs is too narrow
Andi, if SV is the go, I am happy to be the 4th (if you'll have me on your hallowed turf)

I'm happy to coordinate a 2011 event, but will not do it until the 2010 event is run and won.

I will give Dennis a call. Otherwise, perhaps Waterford Valley, I've never played there.

Apart from the post-opening re-do section near Tithers' place it isn't too bad. There are certainly worse options around.

Ian this wont happen, at least for me, we have a very poor track record of getting the VIC matchplay event completed.
If we don't get a winner from last years event, I will never co-ordinate or participate in this again. It is getting ridiculous.

After an epic match today at Southern in perfect conditions, I formally announce that Jim is the 2010 Vic Ozgolf match play champion, and now also holder of the quaint banner he so strongly desired
The match was close all day with f00re holding his own, but eventually succumbing 3 and 1.
Well done to both...although f00re owes us a jug for failing to reach the ladies tee on the last hole of the match (followed by an air swing)
Bring on the 2011 comp!

Well done Jim, You were certainly the deserving winner of the Matchplay. It would have been a bigger win if I didn't have the bunkers on my side
Thankyou Dennis for hosting us at Southern, It is always enjoyable to play new courses and meet great Blokes!
That 8th Hole will be entrenched in my mind for a while. I owe you guys one next time!
Thanks again boys!

Well played by f00re, at least the match was of a reasonable standard. I adopted the Paul Runyan approach of laying up 40 metres short of my opponent in an effort to hit first and apply some pressure. The result may well have been very different but for a bit of bad luck by f00re on the 5th (we hit off 10). And having played three bandits with official GA handicaps in the earlier rounds, it was also refreshing to play someone self-handicapping to the right mark (although he clearly has the potential to go a lot lower).
I would like to thank Chappy and Bruce for their outstanding effort in organising this event. It would never have happened without you. Thank you.
I would also like to thank Dennis for hosting us at short notice. The opportunity to play with a director at such a fine club was very much appreciated.
Finally I would just like to say that this means a lot me. Having being an integral part in the establishment of this site, via my misconstrued "it isn't a hole in one unless it is in a comp" jibe on another site, I will wear my OZgolf.net 2010 Victorian Matchplay Champion banner with pride.
BTW, does this victory make me exempt for the national championship?

Another year where I've been beaten in the first round by the eventual champion. I think this is the 3rd or 4th time now.
Everyone should hope they draw me first up for 2011.
