The NSW Ozgolf Cup?
Hi guys,
After the WA attempt at organising an ozgolf major outside of QLD, I thought why can't NSW have one ourselves (even if it would be infested with queenslanders).
I was just thinking that if we got EOI from enough people then I could give NSWGC a ring and see if they'd let us on the course for a day (doesn't have to be NSWGC but if it was hopefully we'd get some Qld'ers and interstaters coming down).
So what does everyone think? Good idea or just my crazy thinking?
If your from Qld or interstate would you come and play if given enough notice?
I was thinking a good time would be during the school holidays after 1st term. So that's about 3-4 months time.
Opinions?
Pup

Try and see what happens.
Not too confident NSW would offer us spots in a comp round at a reasonable price. You also realise that would be Easter? Hard to get cheap airfares for interstate travel at that time.
Just my thoughts though.

Probably mostly crazy ...but if there were the numbers for a NSW Ozgolf Trophy/Plate/empty bottle of Extra Dry, I'd most certainly be keen to join in.

This thread is OzGolf's version of the definition of optimism. If there is a club around Sydney which has a Easter Open that may well be the ticket.
16 randoms at NSWGC on a weekend? No chance.

It wouldn't be comp grant. Comp times are only by invitation.
Shaun... You don't know untill you ask..
If we played on a quiet day (tues, thurs or friday) then there is always a chance. NSW offer social times to the public on those days, so they do let "randoms" onto the course.

Would have to be a weekend or public holiday to get any sort of numbers. Just because it is school holiday does not it means people don't have to go to work. Am talking from experience of trying to organise golf rounds.
Try your best Pup, but to get any more than 10 to a Sydney round IS a classic!

Keep chiming in your voice of experience Grunt, much appreciated.
I was just hoping if I gave the 'community' enough notice then they'd be able to get out of their committments of work or whatever.
Weekends are out. That is definate. So weekdays are the only option.

Well if you are going to be like that enjoy the round with your schoolmates!
We have had many rounds organised before you were here and it is hard to get guys to want to play a weekend round not at their home club.
It maybe just a Sydney thing but people have other things in their lives other than golf and the travel required to get to courses in Sydney that can accommodate us means the travel for some is too big an impact on their day.

Take a note from the Wynnum Cup and the Nudgee Plate. Neither of those courses are world-beaters.
The quality of the course is far from the be-all and end-all. An enjoyable course which is somewhat central is all you need.

Probably, also what would the cost be?
Remember a lot of us have played it so have ticked it off the list so a good deal would have to be done to tempt to take a day off work for it.

Don't know Grunt. 165 is the normal fee (I think) but if we got 16 or so they might do us a good deal.

Why wouldn't you just play an open day, like Windsor or some track in the west (sorry, being realistic no other tracks let you on in numbers on a satdy). Even Leonay.
Depends on whether it's about the course or the company

Nothing wrong with that Pete. It's just that if it were at NSW then I'd be hoping to get some interstaters.

Ozgolf State of Origin? I like where you're heading with this, Pup. Even if you're not heading in this direction.
Unless, of course, a QLD'er heads back north of the border with the piss bottle trophy.

Good luck pup. We've had some large groups travel interstate for games in the past. Usually organized around cheap flights and/or golf

Indeed.
Pup, OzGolfers as a general rule couldn't give much of a toss for the course, and I would venture to say conditioning is more impotant than design to most.
I would suggest they would enjoy St Mick's just as much as NSWGC, and then you're getting towards the sort of cost they would embrace + a clubhouse with great views + close to airport.
Bonville in autumn so it's 5hrs-ish for Syd and Bris residents?
NSW Sth Coast (Narooma?!) or Murray River and get some Vics involved?
I, like you, would love to see it, but the reality is it's unlikely in Sydney.
