Default WA 2009 Matchplay Final, Mt Lawley, 13/12, Can the Canuck make it a clean sweep?

    OK,

While I am disappointed I am not in the final, I am breathing a sigh of relief that we finally got to the point of having a final by the end of the year.

2009 has been a big year for WA OzGolfers.

    The inaugural Sandgroper Champs
    The inaugural WA Matchplay
Having more than 3 WA OzGolfers posting on the forums
And who can forget the countless threadjacks (apart from 3OD who ignored them all)

So the final event for the year is here and attendance has been locked in!

Johnny Canuck (4) vs Yossarian (22)

17 shots. Can the cwazy canadian somehow muster enough internet money? Will Yossarian buckle under pressure and collapse like an Aldila DVS noodle?
The Canuck is trying to make it a clean sweep of all the "WA Majors".

Mt Lawley GC, Sunday December 13, 2009.

What a great course to play this thing. I am in like Flynn to watch this and "score".

    My book would be running:

    JC $1.80
    Yoss $2.20

JC is a fierce competitor who seemingly can will the ball to do what he wants. Yoss is a high handicapper capable of golf much better (and much worse) than his handicap. Which Yoss will we see Sunday?

    Let the sledging begin!!

That is a lot of shots head start that the Canadian one is giving up, will have to see where the smart money goes before placing a bet on this one. Besides I don't get my pocket money until Thursday. Can I bet pro shop vouchers?

Tourfit has been very funny today.

Just talking myself down, as per my gameplan.

    1.Don't get ahead of myself.

2.Then riding the club like a bull.

Finally you are talking some sense.

Actually, that sounds like what simmsy does with his 3 wood.

If I win a club riding dedication to AndyP will have to go out, that was out and out gold.

Does JC have any lucky charms I should be trying to steal?

    Yep, internet money.

A tribute to AP will be photographed should you win. OzGolf deserves it.

    BOTH !!!!

I had to give up 12 to Yoss, and was in the match pretty much until the 17th.

17 though is a lot, and I don't think that Yoss will make THAT many mistakes, or fold to that extent. If he plays steady golf and uses his h'cap well enough then he 'should' be OK.

JC will have to convert most of his chances to stay in it. MLGC is pretty hard when you're off line from the tee, as most of the time you are fully blocked out from the green. The key for JC is, if he drives it well on Sunday, Yoss will find it hard. There are Par 5's he could easily reach, long Par 4's that he'd be hitting mid iron vs Yoss's woods...that'll help him get into position to potentially win the hole I would think.

However, it's the greens where I think that's where it will be won or lost. It's gonna depend on Yoss's putting touch and his ability to get the speed right. And JC's conversion rate.

It was a could have been round.

    Wiped 7.
Wiped 14 after hitting a great iron into the wind and landing in an unraked bunker. Two to exit.

Perfect tee shot on 18 that rolled 6 inches too far and left me standing in the bunker to play my second. Doubled to finish.

Took $14 off Tiger in the skins, so all was well.

The stat I'll need on the weekend, 29 putts.

i'm pissed. it could have easily been an even par round off the blacks.

18 strokes. at least it is easy to work out where you get shots.

My pick is Yossarian here, as speaking from my past experiences, he as a higher marker has the advantage on a not too long a course - if he keeps the ball in play and produces steady golf.

Johnny will then be forced to take risks and make more birdies, in the hope of producing close to a par score. Now even I on these courses dont do that as often as I used to, even at my best. Johnny has a challenge on his hand if Yoss is not overwhelmed by the occasion.

Which means you can turn it on. Especially around a choppers track like Mt Lawley

This matchplay is gonna be a toight affair IMHO.

Mmmmm, the 39 degree heat looks like it will be a huge factor. It will test mental toughness and endurance.

    Oh, too hard to choose!

My new found fitness regime will get me over the line in the extreme temps.

    Revised prediction:

Canuck 1 up with a bird on the 18th.

I love the heat, I thrive in the heat.

However if we lose the toss on saturday and I have to bowl all day I might not be feeling so fresh.

Oh and the OP needs updating to better reflect JC's handicap.

I don't know Yoss, but he seems like the sort of bloke you wouldn't want to get beaten by.

    Which means he'll win.
