Default Ozgolf Champs November 27th 2005.

    November 27, 2005
    Coolangatta-Tweed

    Morning - River - 7:24am - 8:27am NSW TIME
Arvo - West - 1:25pm - 2:25pm (however should be right to hit off after the last members have come through, estimated 1:15 ish)

$75 for 36 holes, including carts.

    (36 players/18 carts booked)

[Admin edit (AndyP):  Added booked details]
    ------------------------------------

OK Guys and Girls, this one might take some time to bring together,so I thought we might start tossing some ideas around for this one.

I think that 36 holes in the one day is out after last year.

Also seeing as our Sydney Ozgolfers are getting some good turn outs it might be a good idea to find a venue halfway somewhere, like Tweed Heads again

I'm not sure what is good on the NSW north coast and is half way between Brisbane and Sydney.

Just my thoughts guys, what do you think......

    Terry.

36 holes in one day works for me. What about...

    1. Nudgee North & South
    2. Bribie & Pacific Harbour
    3. Keperra 27 holes
    4. Coolangatta-Tweed again...
    5. Toowoomba City & Middle Ridge
    6. Indooroopilly East & West
    7. Coffs Harbour & Bonville (long drive for everyone )

Geez Richard ... you certainly have a lot to say for someone who prefers watching horses and hats ...

Tezza, halfway might be more of a hassle for more people. I think we need to find somewhere close to an airport. I say Cool-Tweed again. I don't mind 36 holes, but perhaps a slightly later tee off time? We had plenty of daylight left at the end of the day ...

BTW, what's happening with the trophy, AndyP?

I like it somewhere with an airport.

Brisbane or Gold Coast is cheap cheap cheap by air

WHY NOT AN EVENT AT NEWCASTLE OR SYDNEY?
    Yearly rotation of venue

How about 18 holes Sat arvo and then 18 holes Sunday morning.

PS....I don't have a problem with 36 holes in one day

Nudgee is extremely close to Brisbane airport and offers two distinctly different types of golf courses. Plus, we got a few Nudgee members here who might make it easier to organise...

My vote is for the Champs to be held in the Coffs Harbour area for 36 holes, with an overnight stay. Otherwise we need to call it the QldGolf Champs.

Alternatively, you can play 36 holes in Qld (Bribie or Sunny Coast area sounds good) OR 36 holes in the Sydney area, but you can only participate in one location. [Sorry Vic based members, but you would need to build the southern membership more to be considered for hosting].
The winners of these two events have to play matchplay at some stage.

Might be a dud idea, but I thought I would float it.

So if a thread for the Champs has started, can I start a thread for the 2005 McLeod Cup now?

If we can get time off for this - we will be driving up - so anywhere is cool - Qld is only 11 hours away.

I like the idea of a Sat arvo game and a Sunday morning game - see who has enough self-restraint on Saturday night

Has to be a 36 hole event in my books too, i don't see what the concern is (bring lots of water, and Neurofen!). Besides I need at least 9 to warm up.

Tweed is a good venue because you can usually get good travel rates to Cooly airport. Otherwise, Casino is 20 mins away from Lismore, which you can fly to for about $95 Arranging 36 holes there would be a sinch too.

    As for venues, i'm up for anything;
    Cooly/Tweed
    Ocean Shores
    Mur'bah
Bonville (i don't think it's near the ton? If a group is arranged well prior i am sure we can get a better rate)
Anything in the Hunter Valley (Vintage / Cypress, but $$$ a worry)

Will not be using the services of the guy that screwed me over.

Local trophy centre near home was not open from before Xmas until the end of Jan, and is only open from 9:30a to 11:30a on Saturdays on weekends anyway.

Drove to the shop on Saturday at 10:30a, and he has changed his working hours to not working on weekends.

Will be walking to one close-ish to the City this week.

I also have a list of those that have not paid.

Thanks Dan, but I'm not about to pass this one off now.

The Champ has told me that he isn't too worried about not receiving it yet anyway. Just a shame that he hasn't had it in his display cabinet for longer. (Unless of course he wins....again)

I think if the majority want 36 hole, then it has to be Tweed for me again, because the 36 there are awesome.

So do we do 36 on the one day or 18 Sat arvo and 18 Sun morning

$84 for groups over 20 on a weekend. Thats still pretty close to the ton.

Also, don't do it on Oct 29/30....I'm hoping for a sequel to the viewing of hats and horsies in Melb.
Cool...looks like we have our date already

I am all for an annual venue rotation. Gold Coast one year, and Brisbane the next and so on.....

The 36 holes was not the problem last year - it was playing the 2nd 18 as stroke, combined with that course that killed the scores. If it was stableford it wouldnt have been anywhere near as bad.

Its our premiere event, it has to stay at 36 holes, and be played at the home of Ozgolf, otherwise its going to be a weak field.

maybe we can consider running a joint comp, with two venues. Try to play on evenly matched courses and then adjust the scores by the difference in the course rating.

Or to help out all those faraway people- have a seperate Virtual Championship. Everybody plays their home course on a specified day. That way nobody has an advantage or disavantage.

36 holes at Cool/Tweed gets my vote

.. maybe have the first round as stroke and the second as stableford (like Blakey suggested)

Had a ball at Tweed last year it gets my vote again.
36 holes was quite draining in one day, would prefer over 2 days.
    Either way I am keen

Fwiw, I think Cool-TC 36 holes in a day is definitely a good idea. Test of physical & mental strength.

Not sure I'll be there in late October as my wife and I are expecting our 2nd in mid-October.
