Default How Will You Play The 10th Hole At Pelican Waters?

I thought I would get this going considering the Champs are so close.
We are off the 10th, which is a 465m par 5 (from the blues) and it looks like a fairly straightforward opening hole. No big clumps a bloody bamboo to worry about this year There looks to be some short, but very tricky holes so I can see the hybrids getting a good workout.
The back nine looks a lot tighter than the front so if your long game is off it could be a long weekend
Feel free to add more holes and give your thoughts and tactics.

Strong drive to centre right, chunk a 4I, push a 7I to the right edge, misjudge the chip and make a 2 putt bogey for 2 points.

Hmmm ... that hole looks like 18th at Magenta. Last time I played there, I duckhooked 5 drives OB left and scored a 17.

Last time I saw you hit a drive, a Duck hook would have been a good result!

That's the play, if the driver will put you in the bunkers off the tee (it may not for me). The advice to play the approach from the right is good stuff. I've birdied the hole twice after playing the hole safe like this.

465 is the whites, blues are 500 - or are we playing off the whites?

I'll play my normal and game.
I will just keep hitting the ball until I either pick it up out of the hole or pick it up for a wipe.

Driver, 5 iron, wedge and then 4 putt for an easy 7, or Driver, 5 iron, wedge short of the green, chip on and 3 putt for 7.

Can't believe you guys are discussing the strategy of this hole, of all the holes at Pelican.

I've played there quite a bit - and look forward to hearing the stories of dramas on 2,3,6,15,18.

But most of all the 5th, 9th and 16th. They are 3 holes that do not have ANY margin for error. The 5th is a mid handicappers nightmare, and 16th you can hit 3 great shots and still walk off with 7.

..and keep an eye out for the snakes!! I wouldn't be looking too hard for balls in the scrub - especially on 9 and 16

Any opportunity to use a leather wedge on this hole?

The 10th is only index 17 so no shot to play with if you get into trouble. So for me Driver, 5/6 iron and wedge in.

Now the 18th looks like some hole for getting into trouble!

In match play against ap this year....

    We played of the whites

I went 3 wood center fairway past the traps,
3 wood in the left green side trap and plugged.
    still in the trap
    over the back
    lob onto the edge....

    AP
    Driver (or 3 wood)
    iron layup
    wedge on
    monster putt for bird.

    I recommend the layup.

It is going to be fun of the blues I have played the course 3 times in the last 4 years of the whites and never had a score. I found off the white I was hitting lay ups all day like a 5 iron on the 2nd. I found it difficult to judge the layout zones.

I can see the 2 days offering very different scores for peoples.

lets hope the wind is up to keep the rain away.

Yes you are correct I just assumed the back tees would be the blacks.
We will be playing from the whites by the sounds of it?

We are starting on the 10th tee so it made sense to start with that hole. I will put up a few more of the tougher holes soon.

Ok, here is one of the tougher holes Boonie was talking about.
It is the 5th only 334m Par 4 from the whites, but very tight.
Obviously left means trouble, but if you manage to catch one of the traps it will leave you with a difficult approach. The second fairway trap on the right is roughly 190m from the tee, the left hand trap is 206m & the last right hand fairway trap is 228m. The fairway runs out at about 280m, but it would be a brave sole to grab the big dog on this hole

Do you get point of entry if you end up in one of the swimming pools?

Played it once. 3wd at the last bunker on the right (5m short). 9-iron to middle of green and 2 putts.

I'd be a very happy camper if I can repeat that twice next weekend.

On this hole the safeest route is to drive to the widest part of the fairway short of the last fairway bunker, which is a drive of 210 - 230 yards. Leaving a wedge or 9-iron to the green. Make sure the shot into the green is right of centre. The big hitters will only need a 5-wood, SW or GW. It is not really a hard hole.
