    Default Fishing

I've been fishing once in my life, but it is something that I want to get into (every time I drive over the bridge to Redcliffe GC I see a few guys dropping a line).

Anyone else into it? Any tips?
    Forum needs more banter.

(Dave Downie's site) and Brisbane Fishing to name a few.

Any ideas on what type of fishing you want to do?

You should buy a 25 foot centre console boat and I will show you around the bay chasing mackerel.

Been fishing all my life, since I was old enough for Dad to get me out in the boat.

We used to go in fishing comps etc, but now we just go out for a bit of fun every few months.

Personal highlights were catching a 37kg Southern Bluefin Tuna (1hr 45mins to get it in) hooking a Great White, only to have it tow us around 2kms before biting through 400lb wire trace and my first and only 10kg Snapper

Haven't done much ocean fishing myself, Been fishing rivers and dams forever. My parents would be fishing with me in a basinet beside them

Want to try the rocks at Point Perpendicular (mouth of jervis bay). Apparently you can catch marlin off the rocks at the end of summer there. That would be cool.

Caught this mackeral in the mid 70's on the edge of the reef off Possession Island.

147 fish in this pile: mostly coral trout and sweetlip off trunk reef between 1.00pm and 4.00pm (between two of us).

Caught it on a lure Eags, it came off the reef and took both our lures, mine held. Had it in the boat within 10 mins following one big run. Caught one almost two foot longer the following year off Forbes Island, north of Restoration Island. Hooked this horse on a mackeral spoon on piano wire and blind cord. It stopped the boat in its tracks and I only got it to the boat because I managed to anchor the line on a cleat and drowned it. Definately the scariest head on a fish I ever saw.

Mark, fishing is a lot more fun when you are catching fish. It can be a bit of a drag when they are not on the bite. I find it one of the most relaxing things to do in life

    Sorry Shaun,

Fishing is far to good for any left handers and therefore the makers of all rods refuse to produce cacky handed gear...

I love fishing. I have a kayak that has rod holders in it and it is great too fish from.

I much prefer freshwater fishing compared to fishing in the salt, don't ask me why but the ocean doesn't seem as peaceful.

Sweetwater fishing is a good forum for information. The link is to a thread that I started for my first post asking for some information on some new rod. One bloke ended up giving me a good quality road and another bloke gave me a reel. They are a terrific bunch of blokes, similar to here.

The first time I went fishing in the Mary I caught one. I only had light 6lb line and the thing went crazy. My pop who never went fishing got the bug after seeing that and now goes a couple of times a week.
