I haven't fished for a few years now, but I prefer reef fishing to anything else. Get a 100lb handline, whack a few kilos of lead on it and knock the fish out on the way down.

I never liked using rods much, I prefer the more primal man vs. fish without the advantage of leverage. Kinda like why a lot of people hate belly/ broomstick putters.

Firstly, did anybody else notice Ray's arms where he is holding aloft that mackrel!

I used to fish when I was younger but have forgotten everything. Go fishing every now and then with a couple of mates in the Gold Coast canals. We usually catch nothing but enjoy the company... similiar to golf on so many levels.

Found myself gazing across some rods and reels in BCF catalogue today.. Gazing as I didn't know what I was meant to be looking at but thinking I should probably buy my own rod someday.

Could you boys post a couple of those websites again so I can get some pointers on setup and best bait options so out partners stop thinking it's the Brokeback Mountain experience we are really chasing!

EDIT: Maybe I should have spaced out the posts about Ray's arms and the Brokeback Mountain experience

I noticed that as well. Ray, do you have a license for those guns?

I have never enjoyed fishing. Shame really, my old man loves it and spends 4-5 months a year (since he retired) fishing in Exmouth. I should really get up there and do it one year.

I know a girl who went on a fishing trip with four blokes to the Swains Reef and all she came back with was a Red Snapper.

We go fishing/camping every September at the most beautiful unspoiled spot on earth. Invitation only on a cattle station on the Herbet River. Only Black Bream (Sooty Grunter), but they put up a good fight. Nice to eat fresh but not much good after freezing.
Just a beautiful place to be.

Off for a fish tomorrow in Sydney Harbour morning with a group of fellow Kayakers. Should be a good learning session from the experts. Some of these guys have more gear on their kayaks than some guys have on 20 foot boats!

Been a few years since the kids gear was updated.

Whilst not your specialised purchasing outlets (although they did have some selective product under lock and key cabinet), between K-Mart, Big W and A-Mart All Sports was able to pick up some specials today for the upgrade. (Couple of egg beaters and rod replacements)

Now the fun begins with all four kids wanting to go fishing at the same time!!!!

Mike you bring back memories. I caught hundreds of Sooties over my childhood years in the Burdekin River, Charters Towers. Great fighting fish for their size, and you're spot on about eating em fresh. We used to batter them up.
