Just returned from our annual Swains fishing week. It was a bit windy this year and we didn't quite bag out, but still a great week. here are a few piccies;
The boat we go out on;
the dories we fish from;
Some scenery;
A few of the fish we caught;
One hook, 2 fish happens a bit out there!
And a sample of the food we were treated to;
The 1st pic is of our entrees one evening! Included beer battered reef fish, Trout wings in honey soy, Thai fish cakes, Sashimi platter (mackeral, tuna and cobia) and Fish Cerviche. There was a crew of 5 this trip, 4 of them are qualified chefs!
Looks fantastic Daves
Outstanding Shillo.
Forum needs more banter.
Sensational pics.

I believe Ferrins and Grunt are into the Kayaks.... Well the boss is trying to convince me to ditch the road biking and look at fishing kayaks.... I've not bought a road bike as i wanted to ensure that it was something long term i'd be interested in doing, and i'm not sure it is for a few reasons. However i've been getting more and more into throwing a line in recently, and the wife has also taken a shine to it. So i'm doing a little ground work on what my options are. Accessibility from land limits the fishing spots that i'd like to get to and i'm think about a kayak.
Grunt/Ferrins any advise on man powered fishing vessels? Ideally looking for one that can adapt to both a single or double setup...
trialled this the other day (http://www.fishingkayak.com.au/fishing_kayak_tempo2.htm), with a combined weight of 125kg, we needed to take a bit of deadweight with us for added stability, but otherwise it was pretty good.
Golf has drifted to a inevitable 2nd at the moment, and i'd like a fall back for the summer.

AKFF & Kayak Fishing Down under
AKFF have lots of reviews and a good forum, is like ISG
KFDU is pretty good and has heaps of knowledgeable guys, is like Oz Golf

would you need a little anchor with a fishing kayak? Would you get sick of drifting? I was fishing on the bank at Maroochy last week and saw a couple of those kayaks go past. Also saw a pedal powered one, which was making slow going. It's great that your partner is into it. Makes it all much easier...
The hobie (pedal Powered) ones are quite expensive >$2000

Not sure and anchor is required as when i've fished off the kayak we've basically trolled with rods in holders...
But yes the wife is keen, and that certainly helps, but i need the flexibility that if she's not interested or gets over it, i can use it on my pat malone.
Plenty of good spots that are accessible by kayak as well, which i'm hoping will spark more interest from her if i can find some decent fish.

Thanks Grunt, yeah i've been looking at the AKFF discussions for a while which are very good, i'll check out the others too. Cheers
No need for the peddle powered things. The one i posted the link of has connection point for a small electric motor, so the cost of the peddle upgrade is not warranted imo.

I have one of these:

The Mirage drive is awesome. Not had it long, but I'm hoping to take it on some adventures into the bay as I build up skill. Took it out on the weekend, had the wife in the back and the three kids on the tramps.
Vikings are nice too, made in Queensland and they have a shop on Gympie Road at Chermside.
I have three kayaks that serve three different purposes. Not much interest in murdering fish at the moment or sharing the waterways with the drop kicks who frequent it.

Sit on top plastic is the aim for fishing, super stable. I can stand up on mine. Look for plenty of storage too. You would be amazed at what some guys have on their yaks.

I have a fibreglass canadian canoe and a Malibu fishing kayak.
Canoe is great for stability, much more comfortable than the Kayak and can carry heaps more. Much easier to fish out of. Good for long all day trips.
Kayak is better if I'm on my own, gotta be a bit more organised, still plenty stable on the water, just everything has to be reachable from a seated position
Consider where you plan to launch, if you are using boat ramps or not. If you have a long carry from the car to the water, the lighter the craft the better.
I also thought it would be great to have someone with me, truth is once the novelty wears off you're better off on your own. (Ahhh the serenity..) Consider two samll craft rather than one big one. Big craft catch plenty of wind, if it blows up while you're out it can be a LONG, wet and nerve wrecking paddle home.
Really gets the heart racing when you're trying to land a good fish from the Kayak.
Not sure where you are KPAC but you're welcome to take the Canoe out any time. I'm on the Gold Coast.
