Out of interest, how many Australian wine regions have you visited?
Very few Just. Barossa, Margaret River (have visited other smaller areas in WA like Denmark, Pemberton, Mt Barker that produce wine but hardly qualify as a wine region on a national scale).
Why you ask?

I like hitting silly wedge shots around the green. I had a hanging lie on the 17th yesterday in the right side bunker and the only way to hit it cleanly was to aim away from the green with the lob wedge and scoop it up and back over my left shoulder. Worked a treat, caught the ridge in the green and fed towards the hole. Some days are diamonds.
I thought you sounded pretty negative on MR thats all. The more regions you visit the more you realise that most of the output is average (average not bad). The best of MR is as good as most locations in Australia.
For example, many like to crap on about the Barossa, but just as much dross, if not more due to the nominal cache, comes out of the region.
Fair call mate.
I try to buy most wine I drink based on solid tips from punters like andigold. That has caused me to drink a lot of good Vic and SA wines. While there might be a lot of crap in the Barossa, there is a lot of good wine at excellent prices.
For a solid MR release, you generally need to pay top dollars. The $20-30 range is generally very disappointing.

Cheers for the tip.
Agree re: Mornington. I love some of the Pinot from there, but it is generally pricey.

Have not had a Semillon or Sauvignon Blanc from the Margaret river I didn't like, have also enjoyed some of the Cabernet's I've tried.
I agree the Barossa has become very commercial and tends to be over rated nowadays, we tend to favour Clare Valley wines (we live close by) a couple of my favourite wineries are Jim Barry and Seven hill, both make great reds.
I'm surprised by your statement (The $20-30 range is generally very disappointing) over in the Valley we can still by excellent reds or whites for around $20 and every now and again get to hear of bargain end runs, couple of weeks back bought a couple of doz Jim Barry 2004 Lodge Hill Shiraz @ $10 a bottle, excellent drinking at a bargain price.
McLaren Vale also produces some great reds.
Very true. Morris, All Saints and Campbells are probably the standouts there. Morris in particular are stupidly good at their fortifieds.
I am a member of Campbell's wine club, and get the odd tokay from them. The Liquid Gold version is fantastic stuff. And yeah, ridiculously cheap;

Forum needs more banter.

Best value red I have had in recent memory in Margaret River is the Woodlands Cab Merlot at just over twenty bucks. And I still think I can find better wine from McLaren Vale for that price.

Wasn't there a wine thread for you wine snobs to talk about wine?

No worries adho.
I like good old fashioned service.
I went to a boutique coffee place this morning. I got a couple of flat whites, a bag of beans and a 45 minute tour of the place, and came away much more knowledgeable than when I arrived.
And what did the proprietor get for his troubles?
My return business.
Any Beyonce film clip.
