Fiancee is looking to upgrade her car and this mob offered her $5,000 trade-in price on a car we paid $13,500 for (and has had less than 10,000 kms added to the clock) less than 18 months ago.

Then kept pressuring her to give him a number she would be comfortable with accepting for trade-in. That's not how it works buddy. Give us your best figure and we'll work off that.

If you have asked them at all in the weeks/months prior (say within the last 6 months) to do something about it, and they haven't/didn't, then you could argue that it was the neighbours fault and to seek recovery from them.

And google something like "car salesman tricks". I was astounded when I read about this stuff as it seems every manipulation described I have experienced at least once. Especially this one, usually straight after he has made out to be you best friend. . " make an offer and give me a cheque for a deposit to show that you are serious about buying a car and I will take it to the manager and see if he agrees " Then goes out the back makes a coffee and jokes about they muppet at his desk. Meanwhile the trade in valuer disappears with your keys or makes sure your car gets boxed in, so you can't leave.

Next place we enquired to was an older car we were looking at purchasing, 2008 compared to 2012, for lower price obviously and they offered $6,500.

A lot closer to the $7,000 minimum and $8,000 hopeful.
