$2 to 3 grand certainly is worth the extra hassle.
I guess what I'm trying to say is if you're gonna put in so piss poor of an offer for the trade-in, don't bother offering it at all, or certainly don't expect someone to be even remotely happy with it.
This guy was trying to say that there was nothing wrong with their offer.
some friends just upgraded cars
their trade in was advertised at over double the price they traded in at
Lefty, get an RWC and have a go privately on carsales.com . You'll be surprised how much interest you get, including from the local car yards.
The car yards look at making 5-6 k at least. They do have overheads. Don't expect trade in to be anywhere near what you can sell it for.

FWIW, I just got $9k for my old car in a private sale, which has a trade value between $5k-$7k.
Good job. Shop around. Trade them off against each other. Avoid the cowboys
That's the conundrum every would be buyer is faced with.
Probably after it was repaired and detailed to a state where it could be sold for max profit. Car yards have to pay bills too.
Good advice. A bit of spit and polish and patience and this is THE best way to go.
Wrong.
Mazda 3's have an excellent resale. I'm surprised you didn't get more than that.
If it is wrong Mike, please inform me as to the truth. When traded cars are put on the lot after they clean em up etc they usually seem to have that sort of margin on them.

Depends on the vehicle/value/repairs needed pete.
I'll ask tomorrow. I don't think there's a set figure.
Remember "clean them up" doesn't just mean a wash and vacuum. Most cars we get as trades need a shitload of repairs, one of the reasons they're traded I spose.
Priced a steering rack today. $1600 . Ouch. We didn't see that one coming.
Isn't every car on carsales owned by a non-smoking female who is moving overseas?
I was being very general (dangerous I know) but the dealers have to try and allow for something like the new steering rack problem. I have no issue with trade in prices being lower than what you can get for private sale, the yard has to make money, provide stat warranty etc.
Take lefty's complaint - Fiancee is looking to upgrade her car and this mob offered her $5,000 trade-in price on a car we paid $13,500 for (and has had less than 10,000 kms added to the clock) less than 18 months ago.
The car is 2 years older (car age is whole years). How much depreciation in that period? Say 30% as a guess, means it is worth about 9000, so the 5-6 k is not an unreasonable trade I would have thought.

Leaving home at 5.45am for a 6.30am tee off (after a couple of hours sleep due to kids crying through the night) only to be told there's an old ducks tournament on and we can only play 9. And it's pissing down. FFS.
Guys at work whinging about being busy.
the other 80% of the time you have it pretty cruisy,so when it gets a little busy suck it up and put in
talk about the tail trying to wag the dog
The booker is now responsible for lunch at a tavern of your choice.
Poor form by them.
Not pissed off with him, he paid for the round and drove, and said nothing about almost being hit by a reverse sherman.
Lefty, Redbook.com.au will give you a solid indication of what your vehicle is worth.
