My tourist accommodation business was smashed by the bushfires in Summer, with the shit hitting the fan about two days into the busiest time of the year. We had to refund everything and cancel almost all of our January bookings. I tried to get the 13 week Newstart equivalent back then and the red tape and expense to get the necessary information from my accountant made it a pointless exercise.

The Coronavirus started to impact us in February with international guest bookings way down, and we figured if we could scrape through to Easter, that will give us some extra cashflow to get through winter.....

We’ve received bugger all government assistance from the bushfire crisis and the current crisis. I have had to lay off my staff who are all casual workers collecting the dole (they were working minimal hours to keep their dole). They’re not concerned in the least - they now get twice the money, and don’t have to work at all.

Some of them are in relationships with like-minded people and will therefore receive two double dole payments. Throw in rent assistance, and that means they’re getting over $1200.00 a week tax free. At the same time, my income has dropped to zero.

Something is not right when an employer’s business goes down the toilet and long term dole recipients get their income doubled.

Bugger this coronavirus. I've just delivered a job back to I've of the wealthier people in town. I was commissioned to do the upholstery by a local decorator I do work for, though he was paying me directly for my labour, and he and her selected all the fabrics. It's nearly two months worth of labour, and he didn't want to pay me a deposit upon commencement as I "hadn't outlaid any cost yet". It's left is nearly flat broke now, and when dropping out back he absolutely hated some of the chairs. Not my work, but the fabric.

I don't really know what's happening from here. In 25 years I've never come across this. The fabric itself has nothing to do with me; that's between him and the decorator. I gave him my invoice (which says COD in the terms), but I really don't know what's happening from here. I spoke to the decorator and she's never come across this before either, bit I did mention to her how this has left us financially ATM. He doesn't have the best reputation for paying quickly, hence my terms being COD. I could be all smiles tomorrow morning, but I don't really know. Rob's inside in tears.

    Crap!
Just killed a Bandicoot by mistake, thought it was a rat. Dog had it bailed up under a sheet of iron so I stomped on the sheet.
This really upsets me, got a tear in my eye. Bugger!

Rent and bills don't go down just because you lost your job, Centrelink. The thing that shits me so much about this is 99% of people aren't trying to get rich or take the easy way out here, they're just trying to scrape together enough $$$ to pay rent, bills and food. It's not like they can just go out and get a new job right now. We were 24 hours off pulling the trigger to buy a house, and now that deposit money will leak away and we'll be trapped in the rental market for another 5-10 years. Hooray...And how would a couple in Sydney go trying to live off $48k a year!?!? Cairns is bad enough.

Change on threshold and ability to freeze investment property mortgage repayments for 6 months means I won't have to obliterate our home deposit savings, thankfully.

And I sure as shit hope not. Finally finished the mile of paperwork required today.

That's good to hear. Not sure if anything will come in play for us. Going to wait till things worsen to see if we can get a break on the home and business loans. I know they just add the unpaid interest to the plans, but I kinda don't care about 20 years down the track. I think I only have about 10k of super, with no prospects for a while of adding to it so might dip into that. I really don't know how it's going to affect us yet, really. I don't think there's much other than super and loan breaks for sole traders. The Mrs will get the 750's because of her pension, but I don't think there's anything else coming. Saying that, she didn't have it before so we didn't really expect anything else specifically for disabled pensioners.

    On the $1500 jobkeeper payment.
My missus will end up getting paid about 25% more by the govt for not working for 6 months (assuming she is out of work for 6 months), and my kids will have to pay for it..... winning!

A reporter would have to assume God exists to ask that question, and therefore none will ask it.

They would then also have to ask him about polio, miscarriage, Hitler, dub step.... the list goes on! The only answer is because his god is an asshole.

ABC song this morning that looking at requirements, the AFL and NRL may be able to get the jobseeker payments for their players.

Finally got the enthusiasm to finish off a set of Titleist 690 MB irons and run out of Hairspray after doing the grip on the first iron.

The filthy female in the office that cleans her yogurt container out for recycling with the community office kitchen scrubber leaving crap all over the scourer pad. Makes me want to go around to her house and use her shower leaving my pubes all over the soap.

Surely a diving aficionado like yourself would have an aversion to the groin raccoon? Unless you prefer a little extra tang when you dine?

I live right near the airport so you would expect couriers handling air freight to deliver to me first. But no they do their delivery loop and drop off to me last. If they are delayed in the day they don't deliver or make a BS story that no one was home and it's back to the depot.

Aside from having to drag the anti fun police along for the SE Golf Trip.
Stupid minister of war and finance sits in the car with radio going and phones plugged in charger for hours waiting for round to finish and never runs the engine at any stage for a bit to keep battery charged.
Not enough juice to kick it over when it’s time to head home. Wait just over and hour for RAA and get slugged $30 excess for the 5k over the minimum 40k call out.
Then add to that she wants something to eat at 2:30pm so we drive around town for 30min and there are no take aways , bakery’s or delis open to get a bite. They only open from 12-2pm and 4-8pm. Only place open is Supermarket and a Servo which she said had terrible food earlier in the day.
