Creepy. I am doing the same. (I am going through a stage of re-reading the "classics" I read back in school.)

I have also started reading "The God Delusion" for my non-fiction fix. I am not a huge fan of most fiction.

On the Bedside: Case for a Creator - Lee Strobel.

Favourite all time books are the series of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Left Behind, and many of Jack Higgins earlier books from the WWII era.

I'd be partial to some Biggles if I had the time though.

Might also be a good time to pick up The Dawkins Delusion.

I often return to my favourites - J.P. Donleavy, Saroyan, Steinbeck, Bukowski, Kerouac, Henry Miller, Hemingway.

All U.S. authors from roughly a 40 year period around mid last century - a golden period of literature.

I have read a bit of Steinback and Hemmingway but never really got into it.
Maybe now I am a little older and wiser?
Love my James Elroy atm as well.

Depends on whether you prefer "plot based" or "character based" novels. While Elroy is a brilliant plot based writer, the authors I listed are generally character focused.

On The Road - Jack Kerouac

    Great book.

Never read Tom Wolfe, but have always wanted to. What would you recommend?

The Eagle has Landed was a fantastic read.

I was going to put this as was of my favorites. I have been looking to pick up another copy for a re-read as I have lost mine.

    Also loved:

The Rum Diary and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Hunter S Thompson

Papillon - Henri Charriere - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Brotherhood of the Rose - David Morrell

The Green Mile - Stephen King - movie is terrible compared to the book

Want to read Follett's The Pillars of the Earth

Agreed. I can't recall a more disappointing movie coming from such a great book

Just finished the latest Ian Rankin book. He needs to bring Rebus out of retirement.

Also read the Snowball, by Alice Schroeder, a bio on Warren Buffett. If nothing else reinforces the power of compounding.

The Right Stuff is his best.

You'd probably like the John Updike Rabbit books as well if you like Wolfe.

Would you call Tom Wolfe or Robertson Davies character based? Different writers I know but they both seem to focus on character development more than a plot?

I'm not a fine literature buff, but there was an old book thread. It rarely got posted in though.

I'm reading Feist's latest, and just finished Michael J Fox's second book. I almost exclusively read fantasy books.

Rides a Dread Legion. He is still churning out the series in the world of Midkemia. The books are starting to be a little hit and miss, but this one seems fine so far.

Enjoyed the first book of the series, but prefer David Gemmell; his Drenai and The Reganti Series are outstanding.
Consciousness and awareness - awareness is being aware of what is happening and being aware of what is happening within ourselves while we are conscious. Where did I leave my glasses?

I haven't read any of Gemmell's, but Goodkind is very good. I'm still slowly working my way through Jordan's stuff too, although there's no rush since he's died and needs someone else to finish the last book (which I think is being split into more )

If worst comes to worst we can reduce this thread to a discussion about porn magazines
