Callaway Edge vs Callaway XR for first set of clubs

Hi all, I have been playing weekend golf for close to a year now and am looking to purchase my first set of clubs (have been hiring or borrowing from friends to this point).

I'm currently deciding between the Costco Callaway Edge $899 or the Callaway XR for $1599.


What are your thoughts on the extra investment for the XR, is it worth it?

No interest in piecing together a set from the secondhand stuff that gets listed here?

Not at this stage, keen to just get a set without digging into second hand at the moment.

Edge sets have surprisingly good reviews on the internet, and the 25* hybrid should be a lot easier to hit than the 21* hybrid in the XR set.

There is no real re-sale value for package sets, so go with the cheapest and, later, use the savings to up to buy clubs that fill any gap that you specifically need (eg. a 5 wood, lob wedge or upgrading the putter/driver.)

p.s. I smiled at the picture of Golfbox package set, with six 7 irons and three S wedges.
